A different type of build

I"m throwing this out there because as I continue to work/build my 335is, I'm finding myself straying somewhat from the norm. I'm looking for more power in everything I've done, but I've limited myself and made every modification with every effort to remain as stock "looking and sounding" as possible. Just some examples would be the black fmic, so it does not stand out. Not putting dp's on because of the extra noise and the hassle of emission inspections. I can't be the only old fart that wants a 335 that looks completely stock, but that can run with some of the best of them.

I am far from new to the BMW world. My list of cars starts with a 98 E36 328i, 03 E46 330i, 06 E83, 03 E46 M3, 09 E92 328i (everyone of those was a manual, even the x3). Now I have an 10 E70 35d and my 11 335is dct. Everyone of those cars I have modified in one way or another. But now as I have my most powerful BMW, I'm finding myself resisting the standard things we do and not taking the easy path so to say. My wife says I'm finally growing up...

Growing old is mandatory, growing up is optional.

If you put downpipes and retain your stock catback, it's still going to be a quiet car with a slightly aggressive growl.

You can get hi-flow race cats to still be emission-compliant and then you run some Pure Hi flows turbos with stock-location inlets hooking up to the stock airbox.

I’m right there with you...I just turned 40 and when I got this car I thought I’d go FBO including exhaust but after having the car for a year I can’t envision that. It’s loud enough as is and there’s reportedly no power gain to be had.

If the car holds together for another year I may do downpipes...after that I’m likely to just drive it until it breaks.

Every thread I've read about hi flow cats ends with code still being thrown. Plus we're a $1000 to have minimum gains. Straight dp's seem to be the answer, but with downsides as well.

Having a the anonymity of a stock car is nice, at least what the is with stock 19's can give for being stock. The is exhaust is loud enough as it is and does already sound nice. Hopefully yours holds together
