First oil change
I tried searching, but no luck. My gut tells me to change my oil in my new e92 328 very early, way before the 12,000 mile time. Possibly to get all that gunk out from early break-in. I know this is synth oil, but is it too early to change the oil at say 300 miles? Of course I will have to foot the bill. Any thoughts from you BMW gurus would be much appreciated.

1,500 miles... DONT LISTEN TO THE DEALER
ppp p.s. 300 might be a tad too early... i mean it will get the metal particles out... but only some. for me best of both worlds is 1500.

The way my SA put it when I asked was lease or own? Lease, don't bother, just do it when required about every year or 15k. Own? Do it at 1600 for peace of mind, it's your car who cares about the $75-$140 for the oil change? You paid a lot of money for that vehicle.
Why does a M car have a sticker under the hood saying to change it at I think 1600 or so if it's not necessary? Is a M really that much more needy than a 335 or 328? |

Damn...I have 5600 miles on my car, and still haven't done an oil change. I was planning on waiting till 7000 miles...is this too long? I bought my car too, so I want to take really good care of it.

Seriously I know you said that you did
![]() ![]() If you really want to change your oil, do it after the break in period is over some where around 1200-2500 miles. I changed mine at 2200 miles. This by any means is not required. But after 300 miles..... that is a bit excessive but then I am no expert. Overall, do as you wish. Your car will be fine either way. Enjoy your new car.

Do it after the break in period, 1200-1500 miles. Make sure oil is warm if you do it yourself.

You guys all rock. Thanks. The comment on the 'M' timing is very telling. I'll probably do it around 1200. As always, I get amazing information from fellow drivers. Be well.

Dude, have no fear. I did my first oil change at 5200, and the filter was clean, the oil was clean, I was like, damn was this necessary!? Granted, it was an easy thing to do, surprisingly I admit. But for your peace of mind, and I own my car too, do a DIY oil change and just follow your scheduled maintenance. I'm bringing my car in next week for the 1st service (oil change) and I'm at 17K miles now...car runs smoothly still....

Sorry for the thread jacking,my 335 coupe is approaching 1200 miles, I called couple of BMW dealerships, some use 5w-30 castrol synthetic, some use BMW's own oil and Mobil 1 site recommends 0W-40.
I am confused, which oil should I use? Someone mentioned Tischer sells a oil change kit. Can someone please post link to it? Thx |

I have a quick question. I did my first oil change now at 5000mi I filled up with a full 7 quarts and I checked my oil and it was only at the halfway mark. I thought most people were filling up with close to 6.5 quarts and they would be at the MAX line. It seems like I could use another 1/2 quart so that would be 7.5 quarts. What's up with all the different amounts of oil being used?
