DMF failing or is it? (video)
I have a 325d but it has the same M57 engine which is why I am writing in this category. Last year my Dual Mass Flywheel failed, it suddenly started making loud noises when clutch was half pressed. So I changed it with an after market LUK flywheel and clutch. Surely the noise is gone, but I noticed that I can still hear it, it's so silent that I have to turn off the ventilation and radio in order to hear it. The noise is so low that it feels like a slight rpm change, but it's still there
Is this normal? Is the DMF suppose to make slight noises or is my new DMF going bad? Here is the vid I took: |

Most of us here drive auto diesels. No manual bmw diesel in usa.
On my tdi I had rattle and decided to go smf with vr6 clutch. The dmf had some play but I compared to a new one a friend was installing on his, and it wasn't much difference. Maybe it will quiet down with use. My Smf was louder of course but other than that, I could barely tell a difference. |

The engine rpm will pick up by literally about 20rpm when you press the clutch. It masks a vibration which would occur with the clutch pressed. This is totally normal.
Disclaimer: I haven't watched your video...sorry. |
