can I swap an N55 for an N54 in a 2011 335i?

I may be able to buy a 2011 335i with a blown engine. I already have a spare and 54 engine complete with DME and anything else I might need out of a wrecked car can I swap the n54 into the 2011 335i? If so will it bolt to the transmission that's there? If not I do have another transmission for the N54 but not sure if they changed the driveshaft at all. basically I'm wanting to know if anybody has done this how easy or hard would it be?

Anything is possible with enough money and skill. But putting an N54 in a N55 car would be a major wiring pain in the ass in addition to all the other slight differences.

Alos, why not just put another N55 in it or see if that engine can be rebuilt.

the only way it would be worth it for me to buy this car is to use the n54 engine I have sitting in my garage already for free

Well worth is subjective, but IMO it sounds like a clusterfuck.

For one the air flow module on the charge pipe wiring on the 2011 N55 has the same connector as the N54, hence the type A and type B JB4 looms. As the 2011 seems to have been a stepping stone to later N55 years maybe other connections are the same as the N54. Get with one of the tuners like Twisted Tuning. They might be able to answer.

Its not going to be plug and play, but yes it can be swapped.

Just like a n54 can be swapped into 2012 e91 n52 wagons

The N54 and N55 DME's are completely different and the N55 DME is mounted on the engine, the N54 DME is in the white BOX near the cowl on the passenger side. Some serious wiring would need to be done. They also have different sensors and such as well.

I have the whole engine with harness leading up to the DME which I also have. I imagine it would be a matter of me having to hard wire a few plugs where the DME goes back to the car and I figure they may not have changed those too much. BUT I really have no idea of course. My worry is how these cars are so integrated between systems like the Nav unit etc. But I do have a CIC nav in my 2008 E93 so I know the cars are similar in MOST ways.
