Traffic detours

Tried searching, sorted through the first few pages, didn;t really find an answer...

...when the navi warns me that there is traffic on my route, how do I easily prompt it to recalculate the route? I haven't seen a "detour" button appear and I don't see any way to change other than changing route preference...

And...is there any way to save the traffic information screen to a shortcut button? Doesn't seem like it, but thought I'd ask...

Thanks in advance!

When you get a warning sign about traffic, it automatically highlights the detour button...all you have to do is press down on your i-drive button and it will recalculate the route for you. I have the opposite problem, I hate the fact that I get a detour warning every other minute when there's an accident in my path.

+1 on the detour button and +1000 on the annoying continuous popups in metro areas, I've had to memorize how to get out of that display and back to the map without looking at iDrive. (and why doesn't the voice map command work in the detour window???)

that detour option saved me an hour.

when I just got my car and had to drive it back to the dealership to get a tint job, I ran into rush hour traffic.

my Navi notified me of an accident ahead, and rerouted me out of the freeway. When I got back onto the freeway, I saw a huge pile up of cars in my rearview mirror

I have not been impressed with the FM traffic updates. They always seem late or linger too long. It's about a 50/50 odds that the re-routed path will save me time. I'm hoping its just in Northern NJ that its messed up, hopefully BMW will correct this by the time I have to pay for it on a monthly basis.

i've been toying with the navi on the way to work, which is a crawl at about 15 mph for 5 miles...this morning it warned me of traffic ahead but didn't offer a detour button...i guess there's got to be some minimum benefit the system calculates to offer the detour option??

That is correct...it won't give you a detour option every time there's traffic ahead of you. I usually gives you the detour option if there's an accident, or the traffic is at a standstill.

I had they system re-route me around a real accident...the problem was that the re-route ended up being slower than waiting for the accident to clear. In Houston, the highways get updated quickly, but not the surface streets, so you still have to be aware of the area or you could get screwed.

Happened yesterday...finally was offered a detour...I took it...what a HUGE mistake...too bad there is no "Avoid ghettos" option.

Traffic was "slow" ahead, 12 minute delay, so I figured, why not, let me test out the saviness of this thing "With highways", hoping it would run me parallel to the highway around the traffic...instead, 70 minutes and 100 traffic lights later, we were back on the highway, sitting in bumper-to-bumper traffic NOT lsted on the navi...

...gave me some nice time in the car (still under 150 miles), but the trip through the bowels of west philly, yeah, I could have done without.

I'm pretty sure that the RTTI (FM traffic service) does not have a monthly/annual fee... and it never will. The only thing you'll have to pay a service fee for is BMW Assist - if you have it.

Yeah, you are right, just read this:

"After the four year term, the service will continue to be provided at no additional charge as long as BMW continues its contractual relationship with its RTTI service provider."

GPS Freezes

When i was recently driving, a traffic alert pop up was received, but when i either attempted the alternate route, or went back to the screen, my ability to display the list function, or new route function was frozen out...restarting the car, gave me the function back, but when more traffic pop ups were received, same problem??? for sure, when traffic alerts are disabled, seems fine in the "normal" gps mode...anyone have any clues???
