Criticism on Track Day
I have another track day coming up back at Autoclub Speedway and I was wondering if anybody with track experience can give me some tips on how I drive. My best lap time was 2:09 and I do feel like I can shave a couple seconds off since I was running on Akebono ceramic pads and have upgraded to Ferrodos since. Keep in mind, I will still be on the same tires and don't plan on switching them out. It was also my first track day so I appreciate any criticism I can get.
Here is a video of an on-board recording: This was the third out of the four sessions and the best laps with least traffic starts around 14 minutes. Also excuse the horrible angle it was chin mounted but it was too low and I will fix that on this upcoming track day. |

Its a little hard to tell where you turn in with how low the camera is. I mount mine next to the rear view mirror on the passenger side.
Read up on double apex turns, looked like you had one coming off the long straight (curve straight). |

Same as Slides said, it's tough to see the exact lines you're taking. More or less they seem ok, I would just make sure that youre checking your mirror and that Oil temps are easily visible on the JB4 app since you have boost on oil gauge. As for your lines, they seem ok, just drive more and you should be fine.

Keep up the smooth steering input. Relax your hands. Keep your eyes up and focus far ahead. Look at the next apex rather than looking at the one you are passing. I'd remove that dangling piece from the mirror. Anything distracting your eyes should be removed.

I appreciate all of the great feedback. Im back after my second track day with new Ferodo DS2500 pads. I was also able to run with more advanced run group which I was able to keep up with surprisingly! My best run time was in 4th session and I was able to get a lap time of 2:03, a whole 5 seconds faster than my first track day. I think my limiting factor now are tires and suspension cause Im still running the Firehawk Indy 500s and stock suspension with sport springs

Hire a coach and spend some time with him/her. Get rid of your phone that is mounted on the dash and your g meters. (Air cleaners) Don't chase lap times and focus on the basics and master them. Brake zone, turn in, apex, track out. Rinse and repeat.
Trying to figure it out on your own is a waste of time. |

If hiring a coach isn't feasible, check out Racers360. You send them data and video and they will provide feedback.

you'll get a ton of growth from a couple sessions with a coach. just to get your braking and placement squared away.
this is a 1.56 lap of me a while back. i've done a little better, but i got lazy with track videos. your biggest time sacrifice is on the roval. you need to be higher in the bowl when the roval starts to turn. as you feel the car not being able to sustain full throttle, gently (GENTLY) begin to roll off the throttle as you turn-in. stay about mid track until you can start adding throttle and you can "see" the exit that doesn't result in your car being into the wall. lol roll back into the throttle and let your speed carry you within about five feet of the wall.

You are breaking way too early, loosing like 2 sec a lap, you have the wrong line in the corners, do not follow the guy in front of you: Track Day 2 Session 2 @6.22 you are way off the racing line I could fit my car next to you on the left. Key is stay calm brake late slow in tight to Apex neutral in middle fast out on the gas once you pass the corner. Breaking is very important more than power on straight. Get an instructor its well worth every penny. Everyone will tell you something different and then you have to take everything in and come out with your own conclusion then practice practice. Also get your ass in the seat tight no wobbling around the seat suppose to support you so if you have just a standard seat belt make sure you wind it out all the way let it go and so it locks in place to keep you tight in the corners or get 4/5 point harness and a seat.
If you have the Nanny On, turn it off and progress slowly you controlling the car not the nanny.
