2006 330xi Brake Fluid
Going to bleed my brakes soon and I'm wondering which fluid can I use. As long as its a DOT4 Fluid, does the brand matter. Do I need to purchase the over priced BMW brand?? Thanks.
P.S. I did a search and couldn't find a straight answer. |

no, any fresh brake fluid will do. brake fluid is hydroscopic and absorbs moisture even in a new bottle. make sure fluid you are buying hasn't sat at store for 10 years.

ATE Brake Fluid is what i used, its good brand - get at least 2 liters, it will take about 1.5 liter just to flush everything out, then rest for reservoir. It will take long time until rears empty, so be patience.

If the car is manual, don't forget to bleed the clutch line - apparently the dealers are too lazy to do this, and in my case, found out that my brake fluid had some fungal contamination in it despite the fluid being changed every two years as per the maintenance schedule - the old fluid (probably still from the original fluid) must've been contaminating the fresh fluid... BTW, any decent DOT 4 brake fluid is fine for our cars.

OE fluid is DOT4 LV and I highly recommend staying with that. It performs better, lasts just as long and doesn't cost much more so there isn't much reason to not use it.
https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/e...brakes/1ZycYvV The common LV fluids are ATE SL6 or Pentosin DOT4 LV but Bosch ESI6 has a slightly higher wet boiling point and a 3 year lifespan (instead of the usual 2 years): https://www.amazon.com/Bosch-ESI6-32.../dp/B07338GQM8 I replaced regular Pentosin DOT4 from a previous bleed with ATE SL6 and pedal feel was more responsive and immediate (Textar pads, Zimmermann rotors). 1 L was plenty to bleed all four calipers.
