2009 m sport 318d tramlining
Hello all.
I drive a bmw 318d m sport 2009 model. It has 89,000 miles on the clock and the dreaded Bridgestone run flat 17 inch tyres. Tye pressure front 2 bar, rear 2.1 bar. Handling seems terrible and not what i’d expect from a BMW. At times car goes to the left or right randomly and is very jittery. From looking on this forum I believe i’m experiencing tramlining |

Checking the suspension is a good idea, no point doing an alignment if you have to change suspension components afterwards. A decent indi should be able to inspect the suspension then do a 4 wheel alignment after if the suspension is ok.

Sounds like alignment mainly to me. Good plan to get the suspension and steering mechanicals checked first though.
Your car will handle like crap if the tyres are worn unevenly etc though. And generally swapping away from the factory fit tyres will help with tram lining, especially to non-rft tyres. The final source of my tram lining was the rear subframe bushings. They weren't dead, just bad enough to cause some self-steer at the back axle. |

Hi all and thanks for your advice.
Absolutely hate the run flats so will change them they wear down even more or if found to be worn unevenly. Currently have around 4mm tread left on all tyres. Any advice what to swap them to? |

Michelin PS4 for me - best combination of performance (wet and dry), wear life, comfort/noise, and price. I go straight for them every time, rather than wonder about cheaper alternatives which might or might not be up to par.

My 318i 2007 M-Sport was exactly the same when I got it. Had the alignment checked and all was fine. It was my first BMW so didn't have anything to compare it to but just knew this isn't meant to be how they handle.
Took off the run flats and it was instantly better and I never looked back. Hopefully picking up my new E92 this weekend and taking off the run flats will be the first thing I do.

Re tyres, I agree with Tambohamilton that the PS4S's are arguably the best, I have them on my 35i but as a very good less expensive alternative you should consider a set of GoodYear F1 asymmetrics, I had the asymmetric 2's on the rear of my 35i & they were very good, better in the wet/cold than the Michelin pilot super sports that I replaced them with, although the wear rate wasn't as good with the F1's
I find tyre reviews.co.uk website very good at helping make an informed decision on tyres. Link attached https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sour...koe-xAdpXZ75Mi
