Hi guys,
I managed to borrow a Windows laptop. After hours of dicking around due to a shitty internet connection and over 10GB of stuff to download i have the BMW tool and ISTA-D(Rheingold) downloaded. Ive installed the BM standard tool and followed the install intructions where i had to delete folders, copy the ones from the download in place and do some reg lines on the command prompt. that seems to work but i havent been down to the garage yet as i was at work today. I plan to go down to the garage tomorrow. Whats with the Rheingold stuff? ive up zipped it all but its MASSIVE and what do i do with it? At this stage do i need it? Also, for the technical gurus on here.... ...what do i need to do on the BMW standard tool? as in what should i do? I was hoping to run some tests and come back to you guys with my results and hopefully be pointed in the right direction? Let me know what you think. Thanks again guys... |

I just read the same issue with another member. In the rear fuse panel, there are a row of 30 amp fuses by the fuse puller. One of them controls spark, check all of them, even if it means you have to pull each one individually.

Hi guys,
a quick update. it seems the crank sensor is faulty. I have an N54 engine. Would i be right in guessing the crank sensor for the N55 is a different part number? And not interchangeable? and Parts for the N54 are sparse here. Where would you recommend i order one from if i need to order via internet? Im based in Thailand. Thanks, CHris |

You don't need to guess, or ask
You can look up part numbers based on your VIN at www.realoem.com There are many reliable internet based vendors for OEM parts although I do not know which will ship to Thailand. Personal favorites are FCPEuro, ECSTuning, RMeuropean, getbmwparts.com. |

Is it the crank sensor? I dont hear much about bad crank sensors..... Now I assume your cam timing was set properly? Very important.

well its funny you said that. Ive been at a stalemate for 7 weeks now and getting pissed off to say the least.
The engine builder says he's done everything right on the engine build and its the crank sensor. The mechanic says the timing is out and the sensors are not at fault? Am I right in saying if they whip the cam cover off they can very quickly check the marks on the crank pulley and the cam sprockets to check the timing is correct? |

Checking the crank sensor and the sensors on that circuit (rail pressure sensor, TMAP, and MAP IIRC) would take 20 minutes tops.

Well, 8 weeks of everyone blaming eachother. Got the valve cover off today and the timing was out 180degrees.
Timing was put right and it fired straight up!! Im so happy to hear it start and run really quietly but FFS!!! 8 weeks these guys just sat around blaming eachother. Unbelievable! what a waste of time. Anyways, thank you guys for your support. Time to finish this 320i to 335i project. Then run in, then time to mod ![]() Cheers again! |
