Sat Radio Questions
I know this is the E90 forum but looking for help. Two questions regarding sat radio. I have a MY 2011 (build date 7/12/10) E82.
I have the base stereo and the S655A sat tuner in my head unit. I have the pink connector on the back of the head unit. Does this ONLY run to the shark fin antenna on the roof? No other wiring goes through the TCU? I looked and didn't see any but would like confirmation this is correct. Second question: I can not get the head unit to receive the satellite signal however I can get HD radio signals. I called Sirius and they indicated I should go to the stealership as I don't have the preview channel available and they think it's a hardware issue. I'm wondering if the receiver in the shark fin could be bad? Does this happen often?

IN the e9x series in the US almost all the time I have seen
that SAT comes from a SAT module in the Trunk. There are some later model Head units that have the Sat reciever in the Head Unit but it has to be enabled from the factory. It can be enabled by coding if it exist's in the Head Unit . Look at Mdecoder and for the Sat Module in the trunk or Labeling on the Head unit that says it has Sat function contained in the Head Unit. TCU Mulf 2 Hi or Combox have nothing to do with the Satalite setup. (Well they do share the Most Bus in earlier builds with a Sat module but they don't interact) I believe the Bimmergeeks pro tool may be able to enable it for you you will have to ask them though. You still have to get a subscription with Sirius though. |

Yeah my head unit has the tuner built in. See pic attached. One showing the head unit and the other showing the back with the pink connector. I sent a note to bimmertech with my Vin and they told me that since I have the $655A I just need to call up Sirius to activate. I even went as far as having the head unit coded for satellite radio and still no signal hence why I thought it might be the fin.
Any other ideas?

I have only looked at 2010 and my own 2011 head units with CIC and they both had the satellite radio built in.
The connector on the back of the HU leads to the shark fin antenna with it's integrated signal amp. https://www.e90post.com/forums/attac...8;d=1488746048 https://www.e90post.com/forums/attac...8;d=1262530662 And see post #12 here for the P/N https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=336788 |
