The Super Sports have a 300 wear rating, but to me they feel as though they have similar grip as the NT05. In theory, they *should* last a bit longer than the NT05s. For me, most summers I'd get a full summer (8 months/6,000 miles) out of a set of NT05s before they were shot...so if the PSS last 2 summers that'd be insane. Michelin warranties Tread wear for 30,000 miles for square setups, and 15,000 if the tires are staggered. Do I expect these tires to last me 15,000 miles? Absolutely not. But if they last me 10,000 summer miles, I would be more than satisfied. I've pondered trying to 'file a claim' with Michelin when the tires wear out sooner than 15k, but I'm not sure it'd be worth the headache. That said, sometimes it actually requires a drag radial to grip under 500tq acceleration...so then you just have to pay to play I guess. |

They guaranteed them for 30k miles, but I'm sure that is pro-rated. I would be really happy to get that mileage out of them for sure. If I only get 10k miles out of them I would be bummed.
Edit: Did not realize they bumped it (mileage) down for staggered. But oh well I am going to enjoy them this summer and finally going to get to the dragstrip for a run with my new found traction. |

But The NT05R is the tire in question here. It's a whole other beast. |

Regarding the Super Sports outperforming the NT05s, that's not an easy feat...but for a 300 treadwear they do a great job. |

I would say yes, it should but I don't know for a fact. 245 should be around 9.62" wide. I'm fitting a 285 Nitto nt555r on a 9.5" rim which is about the same as you would be doing. I've heard of people fitting the 285 on a 9" rim, so I'd say you are probably OK.
Ask tscdennab or hotrod, both of them are using/have used the Nitto 245/45/17 I believe.

Speaking of drag radials....as far as a car that's more daily driver than drag car, what are some good sticky tires that would do good at the track, but also on the highway?
I know Nitto has a lot of different offerings for 18" wheels. Is there a drag radial that will also handle well on curvy roads? I know...it's a lot to ask out of a tire. I've got Michelin Pilots on my car now, but the rears are shot.....it spins them up to easy. Looking for something that's more grippy in a straight line, but also would work on a daily driver.

I've never encountered a street tire that can hold a tuned N54/N55. I had Nitto Invos, Pilot Super Sports and several other "sticky" tires and they all spin in 1st, 2nd, and sometimes 3rd (my car makes about 450whp).
You can get an R compound tire like the Toyo R888's that will handle well and get good grip but don't expect them to last long - or hook like a true drag radial. |

I think the main problem is a suspension geometry, not the tires. These things aren't designed to transfer weight to the rear end, they are made to handle corners.
