Emissions question in Atlanta area
I am going to be putting downpipes on my car soon and wanted to reach out to those of you in the area that have dp's and passed. As best I can remember, last time I got emissions they just plugged into the obd. No mirrors, or tail pipe sensor. If you guys know of particular stations that would be best to use please pm me. Don't post them please. Thanks.

It is just an OBD scan so if you have a DPFix or tune that cancels the codes, you'll be fine. Just can't have any codes and as long as no more than 2 monitors show not ready, you'll pass.
It's getting harder to find emissions stations that are liberal or willing to take a few bucks to pass you. The system is computerized so there's a trail and the fines are pretty big. |

no mirrors, no tailpipe sensors.
also, they have dp fixes you can plug in to pass emissions. I have an extra one from BMS that's brand new, never used if you need one EDIT: My dp fix is actually VRSF. Got them with my downpipes. Sorry for any confusion. Last edited by juicifer; 08-11-2015 at 08:18 PM.. |

BMS stopped selling them as they're based in CA. Currently you can get one from VRSF, N54 Tuning or Wedge. All work the exact same way and are priced the same.

And the monitors have to be ready, you can only have up to 2 monitors not ready or you'll fail. So can't just clear codes and drive in, you have to do some driving to set the monitors. If you have DP's and no DP Fix, you'll throw the code as soon as monitor sets.

You need DP fix. Some shops will sill randomly check with a mirror or do a sniffer test. It's rare, but the risk is still there.
If you're around the north side, stop by Happy Birthday Emissions in Alpharetta. The owner has a tuned n55 and while he won't break the law, he's a really good resource. Last edited by JerMe404; 12-07-2019 at 08:51 PM.. |

Hey guys, don't mean to resurrect a 4 year old thread but didn't want to start a new one if you guys still had good information. I will be driving down from Michigan in the next few weeks and wanted to see if testing was still just OBD scan? I have passed in Maryland before but wanted to make sure there wasn't anything new in Atlanta. Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the follow up falconey, its been a busy 2 months. I am completely catless with the cobb exhaust, but maybe the resonator would fool someone if they looked. My main worry was if they do a sniffer test but if its only OBD and visual I MIGHT be OK. Anyone go to any tuner friendly emissions inspections around the Atlanta area?

If you aren't throwing any codes then I don't think you have anything to worry about. They cost $20, just go get it done and see what the results are. If you fail you have 30 days to repair and have it retested for free. To answer your question there is no "tuner friendly" emissions shop. For emissions they hook up your car and it's all communicating with a database. I've been in tuned cars for over a decade and only had issues when throwing a cel.

Appreciate the additional information! I didn't have any issues in Maryland when I lived there as it was just an OBD reading. I will give it a shot and see how it goes!
