2A1A Tank ventilation system, function
I recently threw the 2A1A Tank ventilation system code.
I can't find any explanation on the BT sticky. Looks like it is related to the fuel tank not venting properly, but I don't really know. Does anyone know if this might be a masked tuner code? I hightly doubt it since it triggered at idle - around 700 rpms, but I want to be sure because I don't want to really clear it just in case the dealer needs to see it. 2A1A: 2A1A Tank ventilation system, function Error will cause a warning light Error is not currently present Test conditions have been completed FREEZE FRAME INFORMATION Event 1Odometer 25408kms 15787miles Engine temperature 99.00 °C air mass calculated 151.92 mg/stk Engine speed 704.00 rpm corrected nominal value flow tank ventilation 0.06 kg/h I have been getting rough cold starts for a while now so the HPFP might be on it's way out, but the engine was fully warmed up when it happened. I notice that on occasion, my idle jumps from 650 to 725 rpms or so, for no apparent reason while I have been driving. It's not the air cond either, since I don't have it on at the time. |

This is probably a day late and a dollar short but I had this problem. Hell to tell you the truth im having the problem again. SES light came on and that code popped up again..It ended up being a hose to the tank venting valve was loose. So now I have to take it in again for the same damn problem. Car ran fine though.

To those whom might encounter the same problem that I have. Maybe this information will be useful to you. 2A1A: 2A1A Tank ventilation system, function Error will cause a warning light Test conditions have been completed My "Service Engine Soon" lamp would come ON every few hundred miles. I always tighten my gas cap til it clicks, so that was not the problem. The first time I took it to the dealer, they just scanned the car, cleared the stored fault code, and sent me on my way. The same fault code 2A1A came back and "Service Engine Soon" lamp came ON again. The second time I took it to the dealer, they replaced my fuel tank ventilation valve and cleared the code. The same fault code 2A1A set off the "Service Engine Soon" lamp again. The third time I took it to the dealer, they performed SIB 16 01 08. Program and encode control modules with CAS. After programming performed DMTL tank leakage test and passed, tech test drove = OK. They also replaced my cracked third brake light according to SIB 63 10 08. |

I'm chasing the same issue. Step one is to clear the code and get a new gas cap or clean and reverse the gasket on your current gas cap. If the error comes back then... I'm not sure. That's where I am at the moment. I think I need to check the actuation of the valve and the hoses, but I don't know where they are.
Suggestions are welcome! |

Turns out, after taking it to a local Indy, we determined a rodent had begun to make a nest, using part of the vent tube.. Kinda funny if you can look past the hour of labor... Mouse brings down BMW...

I'm getting 2A1A and 2A15 codes. Gas cap is fairly new (replaced a few moths back after getting CIC message and seeing cracks in cap gasket, which resolved all errors), but I went ahead and flipped the gasket. 2A1A and 2A15 codes persist after reset.
After fuel fill-up, it is hard to start (crank no start). I've seen posts on other BMW forums targeting EVAP purge valve stuck open - vapor causes flooding. I believe the purge valve is #1 here, p/n 13907618643: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=13_1034 But it's described as a ventilation valve, and I know the vent valve is different from the purge valve. Given that this is right off the intake, I think it is the purge valve. Based on this it looks like the traditional "EVAP vent valve" is a combination of the DMTL pump and a filter cartridge: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=16_0619 Can anyone confirm? Had this ongoing problem in the past summer, got a check engine light along with "close gas cap" also long crank after filling up with gas. Replaced the fuel vent valve, everything went back to normal, problem solved. I hope this helps everyone... Got the part from ECS https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...e/13907618652/

I had my mechanic replace p/n 13907618643 and that fixed it. k///mikes has a 335, so his p/n is different. Hopefully for him, and from the sound of his post, the 335 job is easier. On the 328 N51, you have to remove the intake - I got charged 2.6 hours - pretty sure I confirmed with Bentley that that was necessary, and also pretty sure that on the M50 in my E36 it's in the same place. Ever since, when filling up, I pull the gas pump handle boot back a bit to let it breathe. It seems likely to me that the valve gets fouled with gas or maybe over-pressurization due to poor vent design. |
