Shock blew up due to cold temperature??
I was driving my car in 10 degree weather and I probobly hit a pothole, felt a thudding when going over bumps/potholes. Inspected the car when I got home and saw that the shock was leaking a shitload of oil. The shocks were good before and the car only has 55k on it, getting it replaced this week but I have never seen a shock completely blow out like this, seems interesting to me (was it the cold weather) . Any thoughts?

LoL, it's well past time if 55k miles for a twin tube damper. There's a reason car makers give 60k miles.
Most ppl don't even notice to claim. Get a mono tube for replacement like Bilstein B6 aka HD |

I just got the oem one in the mail. All the shocks feel fine and are bone dry, once these shocks start going bad I'll either get the bilsteins or coilovers. I've heard the bilsteins are great but I might want to lower the front end just a bit. Still baffles me how they blew up all at once

Don't waste money on "lowering spring" kits
You will have horrible ride because they will be bouncing off the bum stops all the time. Springs are too weak for the amount they lower. Get full kits in quality, like FEAL 441 that will actually last. Worth the money, if you consider all the bump stop and stuff you have to buy in addition to spring kit. Considering the amount of labor and cost to do alignment, plus the fasteners you will have to replace, I'd send the OE ones back and pay restocking fee or sell off on eBay. Well the shock crapped out about a week ago and I took that pic today, idk if it could have leaked that much in a week but the car was fine before that day and I have been driving with the fucked up shock

I was going to say the same... that the bump stop would probably not be all black with dirt unless the shock has been leaking for months
