These kind of articles are mostly just click bait. There's no real set criteria or anything specific other than going around the office and asking each editor what their favorite car was in 2019.

I don't trust Tech sites when it comes to cars. These "best cars" lists are mostly just clickbait anyway.
What I do know is that aside from the 7-series, BMW's recent product offensive has put them in the cream of the crop of their respective segments. I'm very critical of their driving dynamics, but otherwise cars like the 3er, 5er, and especially all their SAVs are killing it.
