HD RADIO

...manual says, the 3 is capable of receiving HD radio, i looked at Entertainment settings/ Audio but cant find HD..anybody encountered the same problem?? need help...thanks

It's not yet offered in the E90 either, at least in BMW NA's territory.

i'm pretty sure it's only offered in 6 and 7-series right now. not even 5 has it.

not sure that many stations are even broadcasting in HD anyways

and you'll still have the commercials,

once Sat figures out a higher quality it'll be all over!

There's a third possibility: that HD radio in the E90 is like the Weather Band functionality. That's in both early and later production manuals and isn't an available function in any model as far as I know.

It's odd that the manual raises more questions than it answers sometimes.

The E90 HD radio parts have been on the USA parts system since January ( doesnt mean there is stock ).
No retrofit kit yet asof March

Its not just a software upgrade like MP3, but some large hardware parts that go in the trunk and probably software.

I See the BMW USA website does show it now for the 5 Series, but not yet for the E90

HD Radio is available in the 2007 5 series as a $500 option. Maybe they will offer it in the 2007 e90.

I'm starting to hear more stations touting it, not really sure if it's a general advertising campaign or if the stations with the ads actually have the service already.... let me check... Nope, most of the stations aren't equipped or broadcasting yet.

Also, I don't think Satellite will ever increase the bit rate; not that it's a technical issue but rather the RIAA doesn't want people "ripping" from a decent digital source. Note that the music channels on DirecTV also got neutered.

If it's retrofittable into iDrive-equipped US-spec cars, I am getting one.

My sales guy told me in february that he had been told in a meeting to expect HD radio "soon" for all bmwna vehicles. It is going to be a retrofit, similar to the new ipod solution.

I think in the NY/NJ areas most of the stations are now broadcasting in HD or making plans to begin asap.
