The CIC SSD Upgrade ....Again! (Which M2 Drive)
Ok so I get the jist of it that I'm sure I can handle, I'm thinking of doing it with the M2 adapter way.
https://www.scan.co.uk/products/1111...-ide-ssd-drive Thinking a drive like this ....maybe ? https://www.ebuyer.com/836288-kingst...-suv500ms-120g This is the adapter Jaegger recommends so thats that sorted. Which M2 drives have people used, I'm in the UK, the lowest winter temps I see are usually -5c but thats rare to be honest. I'm thinking a drive rated to work down to 0c(can be stored down -40c) should be, whats the worst that can for those two days a year I'll have to wait for the drive to warm up in the dash, which I guessing would take about two mins, I assume it would mean a CIC reset at worst once it's warm enough. I don't even know if the interior would get down -5c. Any thoughts/input or recommendations would be great |

I tried the M2 way, used a samsung 850 and that adapter and it hated cold weather like anything under 32F so gave up and did one of these https://www.amazon.com/Zheino-128gb-...9129393&sr=8-4
It has been good down to 10F no issues at all.

The case of that ssd is Aluminium? I'd also image the support for the screws at the front can be switched over to it easy? |

Ok so I finally got it to work.
Took a massive amount of fannying around due to my USB to PATA adapter not playing nice when writing to the new drive, something to do with it spoofing the sector size if I got it right? Had to dig out an old tower and go direct to the mobo with 2.5 IDE adapter I had lurking in a draw. Need to re-size the media section now. Working ok so far! I'll see how it goes with the Kingston MSATA SSD and update if it falls over. Highest SMART temp on the old 2.5 drive was 33c way under the spec of the drive. We had two morning of -2.5c this week and I left a digi thermometer in the car and it was 0c in there so I may get glitches due to that but thats a rare temp where I live. We shall see .... |
