Possible Turbo Replacement
This is my first thread so please be patient. I have a 2008 BMW 335XI Manual 6 speed. Since I've had it I've done nothing but drop money in to this car. Now I'm looking at possibly having to replace the Twin Turbo's. I'm tight on funds so I've been looking at what's available on the market. Throughout all my searches on the internet eBay always pops up with some good prices. But good prices are not always the best products. Can anyone tell me if they've had any dealing with the linked turbo's?

Are you going to be installing these turbos yourself? If you are, then I don't see the problem as long as you know what you are getting into (do you trust chinese products to be reliable that will be spun up to 150k rpm?). I personally bought new turbos recently and I just don't have the time to install them myself and I definitely don't want to have to pay labor more than once should something not perform up to standard.
If you just want to pay once and forget it, go with oem from fcp euro, rb turbos or pure who have excellent customer. |

My uncle will be installing these so I'm not too worried about the labor aspect. Also, I'm not looking to "upgrade", I'm dealing with some major issues and my research is pointing me to a turbo replacement. I know they are Chinese made but what isn't anymore. Not sure if I trust them and that's what led me to this post.
If anyone can provide links to good companies, that would be great. I'm trying not to break the bank as I'm looking to replace the High Pressure Fuel Pump as well. Thanks for the advice. |

I haven't heard any success stories with ebay turbos.
I would just get used oem or if you like to tinker a turbo lab rebuild kit and see if that works. |

rebuilt OEM or pull them out of a car at the wreaker...but do not ever ever EVER go ebay china turbo. ever. I used to have a boosted civic and we went through 4 turbos before I saved the money and got a garrett that lasted me until I wrote the car off.

If you're not looking to upgrade and trying to keep within a budget, then replacing the CHRA (center housing / rotating assembly) of the turbo would be the most cost effective option.
Wastegate flappers should be replaced as well. Doing it this way takes some expertise but can save you some money. Otherwise, a set of rebuilt OEM turbos from a reputable seller would be the next choice. RB has an OEM option, but a refundable core charge will be included. Stay away from the Jackie Chan exhaust fans. You get what you pay for. You'd be replacing turbos again in 10K miles most likely... if you're lucky. |

Thanks for all the advice!
Just a quick explanation on what's going on. Heavy white smoke coming from exhaust. Heavy smell of gasoline and the car is burning gas as it runs. I can literally watch the gauge slowly move as it sits. Smoke coming from engine compartment. Oil leaking somewhere and seems to be burning on exhaust. Stutters when idle and at times, acts like it is about to stall. When driving, seems to have good acceleration one minute then stutters and slows down another minute. I've even had the warning come up stating engine problems and running at 50% power. Checked injectors. They look good and were cleaned. Replaced spark plugs. Replaced coolant hose and coolant looks good and not leaking. Valve cover gasket was bad and replaced. Ran codes and came back as misfire which is why the injectors were checked and plugs replaced. Need to run codes again but haven't had time to take it to the shop again. Does any of this sound familiar to anyone? |

Buy the RB OEM option & his kit with all the gaskets etc. quality is unmatched
If you have injector problems, your spark plugs will be the tell tale and or codes popping up. |
