with the variance in vacuum on a f/i engine, you can see the swirl pattern generated to seperate the oil and combustion chamber gases can rise and fall quickly -- giving you that fog horn type noise. plus the conventional system had to be modified to deal with "on-boost" pressure regulation too.

the job on an E46 is usually about 500 bucks and its doable, but in no way easy on the E9x.. if its not too loud or affecting the idle quality of the car, its best to leave it alone..

Thanks for the help everyone. At first I thought I over filled my oil which caused the noise which got me worried. (hate not having a oil dip stick!)

My car is making the same noise. I researched the sounds and found this thread.
Anyone actually fix the sound?

This was a Procede only noise. When i first had my JB3 i never had this noise and after i switched out the procede for the Cobb the noise went away completely.

There was some firmware revision that caused this noise to appear on procede cars during idling.

I purchased my car in March of this year and never had the noise. I first noticed the noise after installing the BMS DCI two weeks ago. I never had my car tuned prior to the noise.

I wonder if adding a oil separator or oil catch can will aid any of the sound?

I got a sound similar to this and it changes with variations in speed but it this is it at its worse when I was driving slow
I eventually put the camera out the window to capture the sound better.
