2 damaged front Bridgestone Driveguard tires on my 330i

Hi All,

I have 2 Bridgestone Driveguard (225/40/18) Run-flats on my 2006 BMW 330i which i purchased brand new from Mavis Tires here at Albany NY on June 2017. There is more than 60% tread life left on the tires . Of late the tires were deflating a lot on both the tires . When I went to a nearby store to inspect, found that there is a tear in the sidewall on both the tires . Took it to the Mavis store and they are not willing to replace it or even cover it under warranty. The tires costed close to $500.

Whats the best thing to do now? Should i contact bridgestone?

if it's not a manufacturing defect they will not warranty the tire.

good luck proving it's a manufacturing defect.

personally I doubt that two tires both had the same defect.

like I said, good luck proving it was a defect.

this is where a good relationship with a tire guy is useful.

Now I am planning to ditch this run flat tires and go all over with Michelin Pilot Sport A/S All season all over for this staggered setup. Is that okay?

This, and they're known to bulge and tear on the sidewalls, usually from impacts.

yes.

and they will say that's not a defect, it's a road hazard.

tire warranties are almost always universally worthless.
unless you bought a tire and had a problem in the first thirty days that was obviously a manufacturer's defect, you'll never get warranty service.
there's always an out.
and it's all subjective, made on the spot by some random tire guy, which is why it's worth developing a relationship with a local tire guy.

I cannot think of any retailer that will replace or discount tires that were installed 30 months ago. Perhaps you should contact Bridgestone directly and share pictures of the damage. Switching to non Run Flats will probably be the best mod you can do for your car, I certainly felt the difference when I did so over a year ago.

Garage List
I blew out the sidewall on 2 right side tires at the same time in a pothole. That is likely what happened to you.
