Question about the auxilary jack

As you know, BMW owns a good chunk of Sirius and thus offers it as the satellite radio option in its cars. I prefer XM (mainly because it carries ACC sports) so I thought I'd just listen to it by plugging it in into the AUX jack in the center console. After plugging it in I'm only getting sound on the driver's side-- and I don't think it's even all the speakers on the driver's side. I talked to my sales guy and he said that it's happening because the AUX jack is supposed to be used for mp3 players, not XM radios. Is he trying to pull something on me? I figured an audio signal was an audio signal; how would the AUX jack and audio system know what the source was? Is this BMW's way of extorting $700 out of buyers for Sirius radio? The stereo balance is just fine when I listen to the radio or CD player so I know the car audio system is fine.

P.S. Yes, I know that I could use the built in FM modulator but that option is far inferior in audio quality and is prone to interference.

Thanks in advance for any insight one might provide.

Hmmm have you checked your 3.5mm cable wire.

Have you seen this thread, there are some good ideas on how to install your XM... http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...light=sat+prep

Dukenole: Try pushing the jack all the way in...this morning I was hearing the same thing you are describing only with my ipod Nano...but after rechecking the cables and pushing the jack all the way into the AUX (wife had messed around with it apparently), sound came out fine...

Also I wasn't aware that BMW has a stake in Sirius...

Update

I used the 3.5 mm connector wire from my XM home kit to connect to the AUX jack in the car. Turns out there are mono and stereo connector wire and the one I was using happended to be mono. I got the stereo version from Radio Shack and it works great. Now on to hooking up the antenna to the shark fin...

By the way, the way to tell a mono connector wire from a stereo one is to look at the pin. If it has one little black slit it's mono, if it has two you know it's a stereo version.
