The pump is mounted on the engine so they move together and therefore worn engine mounts aren't the cause.
They change the bolts because of the different mounting (rubber bushing vs no rubber budging) on the new pump itself so the bolts are different length.
qualicas is correct. The molding has sharp edges and all pumps crack in the same area that looks like is made out of different plastic pieces fused together.
I have replace about a dozen including two on my one 335i

Has this not been resolved yet?
New pumps are still cracking?

I ordered a new pump from Turner Motorsports and had zero issues. Been going strong since October last year. I used the new bolts and didn't over tighten it. Someone mentioned using a torque wrench. Good luck with that because there's ZERO room during the install especially on ramps/jack stands.
Side note: I now know what radiator fluid tastes like.

I put my new water pump on my 2010 BMW 135 last week and it started leaking from the water pump before the car got off the lift. The issue is still valid.

My water pump failed the first week I bought it, in Jan 2015 with 85K miles. It currently has 163K and still going strong.

My WP went out at 54k, about 6 years ago or 60k miles. New pump (installed by dealer, warranty) has been going strong and even survived a motor swap. The thermostat is a different matter, stupid plastic mounting holes broke. It is now zip tied to the WP.

^^ Zip tied the WP? that's amazing haha

My E92 335i and my E61 535xi both lost their water pumps within one month of each other. Both right around 150k miles. Two new VDO pumps installed with no issues.

N52

Has anyone tried to see if the N52 pump will fit or if you can make it fit by changing the mounting on it ( like making a bracket, etc )
what is different on how a N52 pump hooks up ? is it the wiring plug or mounting holes location?

my water pump started leaking a few weeks ago at 55,000 miles, had it replaced and two weeks later had to have car towed back to shop because replacement pump cracked. Ugh....

My son's 335xi (2010) had an original WP simply stop working (mechanically, the motor seized) in the Spring of 2018. Replaced it with a VDO/conti from ECS. Fast forward 18 months to Oct 2019 and it began leaking just a wee bit from the plastic housing where others here have shown in pics.

I ordered another VDO/conti and put it in, so we'll see. However, at just 18 months and roughly 15,000 miles, the VDO/conti should not have started leaking...(first one lasted 8 years).

N52 water pump is 200w vs n54 which is 400w. There is a revised WP out now but it's still plastic. Bmw revised it 3 times hopefully this one will be good.

water pumps suck

Why is it so hard for BMW and the vendors to get a water pump right .
If you have a N52 the bearings lock up ( on my 2nd one after factory one was replaced at 80 k ish, 1st replacement made it 1 year ( about 8k miles )
and if you have a n54 they leak .... after being replaced ..

Just after I got my 2008 335i in 2015 with 80k, the water pump failed.

I replaced it, but never put the underbelly pan back on. The new water pump went 85k until I replaced it preventatively at 165k.

I have always wondered if the extra cooking by not having the underbelly pan made a difference in the pumps longevity.

they can fail for multiple reasons. The guy that bought my old e92 has put 2 on it in the last 8K miles. And I replaced it right before he bought it..

Prob 3 yrs and 15K miles total.
