AMG to replace 6.2 liter V8 with 5.0 liter Twin Turbo

More efficient-turbo AMGs. Nice. "There will be several versions of the new force-fed 5.0L mill, a base version with 570hp and 665lb-ft of torque to replace the 6.2L V8 and a high-output 700hp/885lb-ft unit to replace the 612hp V12." W o w . |

i'd imagine it'd be hard to find a manual gearbox that won't just roast with that much torque....
That's crazy tho... is this credible??? Such short life span for the 6.2L v8

I don't think the plans are to ditch the 6.2L V8 immediately. I am guessing that this turbocharged 5.0L will be a future engine.

But they haven't? The 55k never came in a manual, and the 63 never came in a manual. In fact, AMG built the 63 to have less torque than the 55k so they could use their then new 7-speed transmission. Mercedes won't risk 600+ pounds of torque snapping a transmission if the driver messes up nor give up putting in their 7-speed transmission, which might in itself be in doubt if the 600+ lbs of torque is accurate.

Holy crud! That's awesome. I have always been awed at the awesome torque and horsepower that some of AMG engines out.
