I tracked some cars last summer and they were stuck at the VPC for customs inspections for three weeks. The same ship docked at both the port of LA (to drop off Mercedes) and port Huemene (to drop off BMWs) and both ports were backed up three weeks for ED inspections. I will never do another ED because of this. The wait is ridiculous. I think it is because the cars were "delivered" in Europe and require closer inspections. I had a beautiful calendar given to me by MB when I picked up my car (It was huge--something for the garage) and I left it in the trunk of my car hoping it would make it home. It was too big to take on the airplane. Of course, the calendar didn't make it home. I hear they also remove any first aid or emergency signs; ANYTHING that is left in the car is taken by customs.
I know back around Feb/Mar (just a couple months ago), ED inspections were taking nine days. My theory is that as the weather gets a little better, more people do EDs, and customs gets more backed up. |

If it's in there for a while, there could also be a chance that they had to do repairs. I'd look over your car very thoroughly when you go to pick it up to make sure that there is absolutely nothing wrong with it.

4/15/2008 at VPC and no car
My 328i arrived at the NY VPC on 4/15/2008. Still no word as to when it will arrive at the dealer, which is in NJ. I do know it is waiting replacement of the front bumper due to scratches incurred during transit from Germany. Would appear to be a relatively long queue at the VPC for cars needing work.
