Low Cost Data BAckup software

For all the it crew

I need to find a low cost solutions to back up a server at a site. Its basic generic data to back up to rotating USB drives.

I was considering using Second Copy as it creates a mirror of the data which can be easily viewed using explorer and not some sort of backup files.

Amount of data in total equals few GBs not much so a simple solution and only £25

Just wondering if anyone else has any suggestions

something like Mozy, Crashplan?
you also get the benefit of offsite disaster recovery.

What OS? If it's 2008 or later then I'd use the built-in backup which uses VSS better than most third-party apps.

GoodSync v9, I use it on multiple computers to back up & sync files, excellent. Regularly updated & about £20. Multiple Backup jobs can be created to internal, external or removable media & I think it can even be set to auto.

This ^

Use the inbuilt backups on 2008R2 and its great.
Also use "Allwaysync" to do a copy over FTP. Works fine too.

2008R2 backups are fine if you want to snapshot the server just find it to annoying the way it wants to mount USB or caddy drives and gets all confused when you swap drivers.

Just a headache plus I want to be able to give the user ability to restore data at a moments notice and a straigth forward data clone is that.

Max will be 10GB and thats after few years. One of these apps will be best thanks

Goodsync v9 initially copies all your files to the chosen destination but after that only copies the changed files or part files & optionally moves a copy of the earlier files version to a hidden file - files & erlier versions can therefore be restored. Backups can be either one way, as a pure backup, or 2 way as a sync between 2 computers - it's reasonably quick too

Low cost and data backup software don't work together. It's a failure in the making, trust me. If you want to protect your data, use trusted resources like Spinbackup and their Office 365 backup service. I am using it for a month now and quite satisfied with its performance so far.
