Question Please Help: Need DIY for DMTL replacement.

My check engine light came on yesterday, I spoke to my local shop & they told me to bring in the car. He ran a scan & told me that the DMTL was giving an error code.

He cleared the code & said to drive it around for a while, if it comes back up...then I need to replace the part.

He is charging me $290.00 installed. I am confident that I can get the piece for somewhere around 150.00

here is a pic (# 2) :

I need :

1) DIY so I can replace this part

ANY help would be greatly appreciated.

Just get the Bentley service manual from Amazon; it will have the procedure. If you are going to make repairs such as this, then the Bentley manual will be a good investment for you.

It's not too hard I'd guess. The pump is easily accessable once you remove the right-rear valence panel. dfriller probably could walk you through it. He's familiar with that system.

Just remove the panel under the passenger side bumper....about 8 screws i think, 8mm and 10mm.

Then I think it's 3 or 4 screws for the carbon canister. Im not even sure you need to remove the canister to access the pump. The hoses are held on by clips. Squeeze the connectors and wiggle them off.

Then remove the pump. Not sure how that's secured but once you remove the panel, everything is visible/self explanatory.

I saw someone on e90fanatics awhile ago selling the pump from a e92 M3 for $90. It should fit your car as well....I was going to buy it.

Remember though, that having a code for a DM-TL pump does not necessarily mean that the pump is the actual culprit. Could be a vacuum leak in the EVAP system (which the DM-TL pump is a part of).

Just came across this post....did you replace the DMTL pump to fix the issue? Did it fix it? Or it turned out to be something else?

Help me

So I have 3 codes P2401 P1429 P2419 I replaced my gas cap, canister and also DMTL. I also checked for wires and they're all good. I still have the 3 codes after running the car with my erased check engine. At this point In thinking of doing a smoke test but was wondering if anyone had any ideas? BMW E90 330i 06

You have already replace the major components, do the smoke test, stop wasting time and money on parts.

Waaaayyyy back in the day I kept getting similar codes. Car was still under warranty. The dealer did a smoke test and found the culprit to be a hole in the evap line at the neck of the fuel filler. A friendly mouse had a nibble on the hose. It was covered under comprehensive insurance.

Smoke test is your best bet.

A manual transmission can be set to "comfort", "sport", and "track" modes simply by the technique and speed at which you shift it; it doesn't need "modes", modes are for manumatics that try to behave like a real 3-pedal manual transmission. If you can money-shift it, it's a manual transmission. "Yeah, but NO ONE puts an automatic trans shift knob on a manual transmission."
