Idrive and cluster dies for 2 seconds.
Hello, my first post here.
Recently bought pretty clean 2006 E91 330xd. Everything’s good except this intermittent fault, when out of nowhere dash and Idrive goes off for 1-2 seconds, then starts back up with 4x4!, EBV, DTC, TPMS error. No settings are lost, and right after I restart the car, nothing of that is present. No related codes found in obd. New 100Ah Bosch battery installed last week. Edit: Forgot to add - error pops up few times a week randomly. TIA. Last edited by RADIKAL; 02-06-2019 at 02:55 AM.. |

Could this be related to my uncoded battery? Today after I shut down the engine and pulled the key, battery symbol popped up for a few seconds. I am sure that battery itself isn’t the culprit, because it’s fresh of the shelf and tested. Unfortunately at the moment I have no access to any better obd tester than Delphi DS. Was hoping that someone might have encountered this issue before and solved. Hopefully next week will get it scanned with ISTA+. I just doubt that any mentioned error message could trigger complete cluster and Idrive shutdown.

The error message is probably not triggering the idrive or dash. It more likely that the i-drive display and dash are resetting because of the same issue that the 4x4!, EBV, DTC, TPMS have. An example being everything mentioned above could be on the same ground or network bus segment.
Battery registration is probably not the issue but you can check voltage with the car running to see if the alternator is doing its job. But this is just a guess without knowing the codes. |

a few years back, i found that my car would not properly charge my battery until i registered it.
i also just in the last week or two discovered that the IBS/battery sensor wasn't plugged in, which made it even worse. |

Sorry for digging up old shit, just wanted to update this post.
I've replaced alternator and it sorted out everything. The alternator was randomly spiking voltage up to 17V and electronic safety system kicked in and was shutting off most modules to prevent damage. |

Glad you figured it out, and good information!
When things were shutting off in my car, there was water in the battery bay, and the shorts from the water sloshing around were also triggering the safety system
