2009 CIC maps update failure
guys
I'm really struggling to make any headway with updating my maps on my 2009 E91 335i I've managed to get the 1B file off the car using the well described techniques on here and also generate the appropraite FSC code again using the excellent instructions on here. My trouble is getting the car to recognise the actual maps updates themselves. I've tried each of the following
when using either of the USB sticks I find that the car does not recognise the map update, and in addition seems to delete the contents of pkdbg folder!! I also tried to burn the 3 x USB images to a dual layer DVD, I managed to burn the first DVD but the car didn't recognise the disc as an update. can anyone suggest anything more? I'm toiling here and I really want the better maps, if I recall the car is stuck on 2010 maps as it stands EDIT : just to add I've got the maps version with the tick and the i in the bottom left corner any help much appreciated. regards CJ |

You need to make sure if you do the 3 seperate files you only have the first file(s) in the root of the usb drive, and have the other two in a folder on the root. And swap them around as you make your way through the 3 files. Also, after you stick the drive in the glovebox usb slot you will probably have to hit the "options" button while viewing the nav, then scroll to the bottom of the options and if you have the right files configured correctly on the usb drive it should have a update option to click on.

thanks
files were definitely in the right place on the USB stick dont have the update option car is currently on the 2013 maps package. I'm going to try a couple of different USB sticks to be honest, everything I've read points to the fact my iDrive software is at a suitable level to support USB updates. i.e grey info panel in top right going away when clicked, and tick in info box in bottom left. maybe its just a bad USB stick. |

Until my 2009 lci had the CIC updated in 2015 I had the update via the 3 DL DVDs. Once it was updated I was able to update my maps via the individual USB option (each disc on an individual USB stick). Also make sure you are using the USB port in the glove box.

My 09 (09/2008 build) had original 09 maps when I updated mine to 2018-1 like 6 months ago. Took me a while to figure out how to get it going but no problem once I found the option in the options menu. I have read that sometimes the USB has to be reformatted back to FAT32 or something like that also, but idk. As long as you have the "i" and check mark you should be able to update no problem from USB.

You don't need anything special, I bought the cheapest one they had at walmart to do the trick. Sometimes after being used they might be reformatted, which is why some people say to make sure it is reformatted back to original format, which is I think is FAT32 but not sure.

As I said in my posts above; All you should need to do is make sure the files are setup on the usb flash drive correctly, enter the flash drive into usb port in glovebox, and then press the options button while viewing the navigation, scroll to the bottom of the list and click update.

Hi! I had someone help me do the ssd conversion on my cic, but I cannot update the maps. No matter which version I use it fails at 40.9% or 28% or so. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

It's OEM but good news!! Made it work! Alright so I contacted another forum, and in that forum I posted a question about this... 10 Mins later i had the FSC code for free. So apparently the car is giving me the wrong VIN number it's giving me 1234567 So I sent my actual vin by message to him and we have me the code... Looks like a hacker!
