Installing Double DIN head unit in 07’ 335i?
I’d like to replace the 13 year old “S677A HiFi System Professional DSP” oem stereo in my 07’ 335i with a nice double DIN touch screen head unit…possibly an android based unit so I can run the torque app on it and use it to display the PID’s (gauges). Has anyone tried that? Do the modern head units sound any better than the OEM stereo?
I got on Crutchfield, and the guy was telling me that in addition to the head unit, and the adapter trim piece for the double DUN head, and the adapter that moves the seat heater buttons to where the ash tray is…….I will also need a $350 harness adapter in order to keep the steering wheel controls, and make the oem amp work. Has anyone went that route? Is there a different/better way? Any tips/info/advice would be a big help!! Thanks

Which BMW Head unit are you starting out with?
If you have Nav/Idrive for a head unit you won't want to do this as Idrive is a part of the head unit and you will have a dead display in the dashboard Hump. There are piggyback units from such people as Avin for idrive. The sound quality comes from the amp and speakers in general. Look for the Dynavin thread if you have pro radio. |

I think the pro unit allows you to mirror your phone on the screen. However, I'd double check with a Jeff to see if the Dynavin unit allows you to use torque from your phone. I gutted my entire logic 7 unit 14 months ago and now have a system that sounds pretty damn good, at least IMO. Tuna does have a great point. If you have idrive, you have to go a different route all together. The quality of sound will come from the Amp & speakers in addition to any processor (surround sound amp) that you may add. The head unit is really inconsequential, unless it's of poor quality. You will probably need a technique harness, which costs $100.00 or so. If I didn't get the Dynavin Pro, I'd probably get either a: 1) Alpine INE-W970HD or 977 2) Kenwood Excelon DNX696S or 697 |
