help painting a license plate frame matte black

I just purchased a thin stainless steel license plate from from a local detailing store. It is "black" but when i put it on it gives off kind of a copper coloring to it. i'm thinking of painting it a matte black to match my matte black grills and was wondering if anyone could recommend a process or paint type to use.

i was thinking of basically following the diy for turning chrome grills into matte black grills. any tips would be much appreciated! thanks!

I'm sure if you follow the diy you'll be good. Not sure what the diy says but I would use some matte black spray paint and give it a couple coats and you should be good.

Either scratch it up with some steel wool, or use some primer first....
