I think if you refuse to accept a BMW update, they can refuse to do any work on your car since glitches the updates are designed for ensures the car runs better and to removes any problems that they continually find.

Is updating the Progman a quick process? In other words, when I had my emissions update done, it apparently took a few hours.

Just want to figure out if they can "sneak it in"

Wait a second....you guys are saying that Progman 29.2 will detect PAST tunes before 29.2 was even installed? I thought Jim was referring to the fact that the 29.2 update would detect any subsequent tunes AFTER it was installed. I can't see how they would need to install a new update if the progman 29.2 had the capability of instantly looking at your history and telling them there was a tune on the car back in January 2008 for instance. It has to be logging as of the date of installation of 29.2 otherwise there would be no need for an install. They would just "search" the car's memory instead using the software at the dealership. If it's an update it has to be from the time of install forward.

Please, tell me I'm right,...god I hope I'm right....

Otherwise our warranties are already gone....

Yeh i think your right man! I have been freaking out lately after reading everything about 29.2 update and "secret codes". I asked Terry about this and he said this:

No way a new progman can tell what happened before; but previous versions reportedly generated data that could be analyzed by field engineers to detect all manner of malfeasance. Bottom line: do not abuse your warranty.

WHEW!

THIS is where I think Shark Edit will come in handy for people like me that have no earthly idea how to tune a car. But, I can figure out how to save the Progman 29.2 file and then reflash or restore the old 29.2 file after I put a tune on it. I just hope as information leaks out about it that we see this is built in to Jim's design. Then it would just be a matter of reloading a stock ECU map and data and off to the dealership we go,...

According to my tech when he flashed my car last time, it depends on how many modules need to be updated. It can take 8 hours or more. It can also be very fast.
