Can I modify the Nav DVD so I can display 2 types of POI like Gas Station and Police

It sucks that only one type of POI is displayed on the screen. On my previous Nav System I had all my POIS displayed. Can I mod the disk to have at least 2 displayed?

As I understand it, the system can only show one type of POI. The closest thing you could do in this situation, to the best of my knowledge, would be to edit the disc so that you had a "Police&Gas" group, but then you only get one icon for both types. Sorry.

There are some DVD-R hacks for the nav in various posts here on the forum. Some people have hacked into the POI list and added categories (with associated icons) or merged categories (to make it easier to search multiple categories).

You can only show one icon at a time, but if you're determined and adventurous, I'm sure you could follow the instructions and create your own DVD-R version with a "Police and Gas Station" category. It's been a while since I've seen those threads, but I remember thinking it was way too involved for me to try it myself.

My first custom version in late 2006, I tried to do something like that by creating a new main POI menu with submenus with speedcameras at different speeds with different icons. I was under the false impression that selecting the main POI menu would show all the icons underneath. NOT.

The DVD worked fine, but I could obviously only see cameras of one type/speed, so all my newer versions just lump all cameras together into one category and use a generic camera icon.

So there is a way to hack the DVD so that I can search for POI?

I was looking for a company called ACME Stamps. I tried so many different categories and then gave up and called 411. WTF do I have Idrive for when I can't find shit in it.

Later, at home, I used my Nuvi and it found it right away.

Later Progman versions have the POI "search by name" built in (but you still need to begin with a category). The hacks I have seen are simply to add or rearrange POIs.

That is the problem, if you don't get the category right, it won't find what you are looking for.

I would almost hack it so that all businesses are under the same category.
