Front Output Shaft Seal

Good Evening,

I have a 2006 325xi and I'm attempting to replace the front output shaft seal on the transfer case. I can't remember is this seal (27107539266) needs to flush with the opening or pressed all the way in. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

All the way in? Measure with the gear shaft you pulled out.

Just a interesting note about these seals: you won't notice an oil leak on your driveway/garage if your seals are leaking since the undertray collects all the oil which then drips off when you drive. I only noticed mine was leaking badly when I removed my undertray for a few weeks and noticed the diff oil leaks on the ground (by smell).

Costs $150 labor at my local European specific shop.
If your car is over 60k miles, replace it.

I had to replace the input side on the front diff.
I'll do the output side when I get the clutch replaced.

I don't know but I'm planning a similar job, and apparently the tool 83300490818 will allow you to drive it in easily and at the correct depth. Costs $20 or so.
