If you can't afford a set of downpipes I wouldn't recommend modding one of these cars then. Downpipes are dirt cheap and I'd be alot more worried about affording parts when they break. Hell I just dropped $140 on new boost solenoids and $160 on a new expansion tank and coolant. That's the price of downpipes right there.
Sure targeting 24psi might not be safe on your worn out 120-140k stock turbos but if you've got brand new stock turbos like someone such as myself does I don't see much risk in pushing them hard. Worst case you've got an excuse to go bigger...if you can afford it

I've been running stage 1 for a while, fine. I've spent over £5000 on fixing pretty much every issue the car had. My turbos aren't worn out, wastegates have been uprated and data log shows it hits very close to target and wgdc are fine too. When they go, I'll probably get RB Twins. If I get downpipes now, I would need catted ones, thats £500+ or $600-$800 depending on where you go... and they don't come cheap in the UK, plus I'd have to get them fitted as I don't trust myself. £500+ or $600-$800 for parts alone might be dirt cheap to you, but not for me. This doesn't even take into consideration labour costs. I've never heard anyone run 24psi on stock turbos new or old. Yes if you have deep pockets, max those turbos out no problem. Intercooler first soon hopefully and then downpipes hopefully if everything goes well. Last edited by Saif2018; 05-12-2020 at 08:10 AM.. |

Well I must say this thread has become quite interesting since I last visited.
Long term goals is 550ish whp. I have read/heard from multiple sources that 600 wheel is the 'safe' limit. Which really means you might still blow up, but enough people don't. I have also read information showing that people have run the stock turbos up to 24 psi Currently MHD 2+ targets 17-18 tapers to about 14.5-15.5 depending on how well your fuel ignition system is working. I do not have E85 or I would have done a LPFP and just flashed the E50 map already. More or less what I'm asking is. Will port inject meth and a custom tune that bumps peak boost to say 20-21psi essentially deliver the same performance increase as the running an E30-E50 blend. Or should I just wait until I can afford to switch to hybrids. Thanks for all the replies |

Did you find going from an OTS pump tune to a custom meth tune to give you a noticable bump in power? |

Don't cheap out on your meth kit. Ideally you want compression fittings, a baffled meth tank, Fast Acting Valve, and the correct safeties installed and working.

Planning on modifying an E85 port kit with legit injectors and then running aqua or snow with a baffled tank. Thanks for the input. Going to pull the trigger on meth and a custom tune. |

People have used nozzles for DP meth with good results for what it is worth. Which injectors are you looking at? I would make sure they are rated for 100% methanol.
