Daytime running lights
I've just got myself a 2008 325D M Sport with professional nav. On one of the options menus, it has daytime running lights. When I select this, it just puts the lights on permanently (I have auto lights)
Is there anyway to change this? My car has the adaptive xenon lights, so not sure if it has "angel eyes" I've not owned a BMW since my 1989 325i Sport Cheers |

There should be an option enabled on the left stalk settings menu. You can disable the DRLs there. I don't have iDrive on my car, but I guess it's the same on all e90's.
If your car has Xenons fitted, you have halos too. These are your DRLs and when you select either 'side lights' or 'headlights', they dim down so not to dazzle oncoming cars at night. If they are selected 'on', they are permanently on unless you disable them. |

The daytime running lights option ticked in the idrive on in the E9x with xenons switched to auto means that the front lights will be angel eyes only (slightly brighter than the side lights) and rear lights on to.

My E90 LCI has adaptive headlights.
The dashboard lightswitch is a four position switch. If the top of the switch is moved to the left it selects Auto. With the switch upright all lights are 'off'. First position to the right is 'side lights'. Second position to the right is headlights on (with no adaptive movement). In Auto position, headlights come on when it gets 'dark', and adaptive control operative. In the off position, all lights are off. But, the daylight running lights at the front can be turned on or off from the idrive. When switched on, they are 'bright'. On my car, the rear lights do not light in this mode. (I don't think this is the same for all E90's. Mine is a 61 plate car). If the switch is moved to the 'side lights' position, the rear lights come on and the day light running lights dim. No headlights. However, I have used BMWhat app to stop the daylight running lights from dimming when the sidelight position is selected. I think it looks a lot better without dimmed DRL's.

Seems that it must be a bit different for the M3's then with adaptive headlights..?

The amount of idiots driving about with absolutely no lighting on when the weather is bad, it's clearly dusk or just poor visibility, thank god that it's now compulsory that all new cars have DRLs.

Your car's DRL need to be programmed to use the angel eyes as DRL instead of the dimmed halogen high beams. Then you can swap in something like these for your pre-LCI's angel eye bulbs: https://www.luxangeleyes.com/products/lux-e90-v7

Can be done with coding, I did this on mine, so that only the angel eyes are on as DRL's and they've been upgraded to LED from CYLED, which look much better.
