now like i said i do not know if the filter has room to move around, but worth a look.

There not much room for the air filter to move in this setup, its rather tight. I sent an email to ATM and they said this can happen with stock tune. Now more motivation to delete and tune.

installed last night...pulls better, much, much less smoke and I am running the Jarek 2.8 tune. if you have the tune get this intake.

The reason I asked is because on the MkIV TDIs (possibly other generations), I remember people 15 years ago on TDIClub reporting K&N filters fouling their MAF's, and I have steered clear of oiled filters ever since.

I was just curious what the wisdom is on this platform. Sounds like it may be the same.

your statement about the oil is exactly why. K&N's still come over oiled from the factory.

maybe if someone bought a KN washed it and re-oiled it you could avoid the issue, but who wants to do that.

-dry filters catch the dirt and also release some dirt if it stays on the surface.

-oiled filters also catch dirt, but they also have more of a tendency to hold surface dirt because it gets stuck to the oil. instead of filtering contaminates they can more likely clog from stuff getting stuck in the oil.

think about how many little rocks and dirt is in the air box when you check the filter. I'm not saying oiled filters are bad, but they do require more service. All filter media style has its time and place.

Each has their pro's vs cons. ATM uses an S&B oiled filter, not K&N. I have been running mine for 70K miles with 121K on original MAF. I wash and re-oil the the same filter every 15K and run a filter booty...no issues, nor have I heard of any fouled MAFs from running the oiled ATM set-up. Paper filter has to be replaced. That said our MAF is hit or miss on longevity and requires changing every 70-120k miles. I bought a spare MAF when it went on sale...still sitting in garage

I just have an afe intake in my car. No box or anything just tossed in the biggest filter I could fit and I have never had a problem in the snow, rain, sleet. Just more air!

Atm is a really nice fitted intake too with a really nice intake box that pulls in a lot more air than stock. I just took the poor mans route with the afe intake which is twice the size of the atm and at some point I'll build a box for it to help with heat soak. Either way you can't go wrong. Both are better than stock

I have the ATM Intake installed today. Got on the car pretty hard and ended up with the "Engine Malfunction - reduced power" message LOL. First time I've seen that.

Is that due to the MAF? Any ideas?

Does anyone know what would the "power rating" be for the atm's air filter ?

I am in the process of making a new air tube from the turbo to the air filter and was wondering if the air filter element that atm is using could be a restriction for power over 450whp. I tried looking for something else and the filters are really really big for these power level or above.

If it isn't a restriction great !!!!

If it is a restriction, then one more headache try fitting another big filter in there...
