I am totally new to detailing
I read it a number of places to use horizontal and vertical motion in different surfaces.... what does that signify and what would the door pannels be and what motion for the hood and roof etc would it be wise to use hand application or machine & which is the best one thanks in advance

What are you even talking about? Washing? Claying? Polishing? Sealing/Waxing??

Horizontal = hood, roof, top of trunk - go back and forth
Vertical = sides and rear - go up and down I assume you mean washing, claying, drying. For machine polishing, you do a combination of up/down/back/forth.

Yeah I meant while waxing/polishing as I read some reviews about bringing out the best shine that way

whenever touching the paint there is a chance to create a scratch. if you use a circular motion you would create a scratch this a circular. if you use a back and forth motion you would create a scratch that is linear. part of the circular scratch would be visible at any angle, but the linear scratch is visible at only certain angles and therefore less noticeable. |
