3rd party integrated bluetooth
Does anyone know if there is a bluetooth kit that can be integrated into E92 without any extra controllers/screen/gadgets?
I'd like to keep my car looking as beautiful as it does right now. Don't really care about voice command or anything like that, but would like to have hands free without having to use an earpiece.

Why third-party? Why not use the BMW solution from the sticky at the top of the forum? You can't beat OEM fit & finish.

well, the problem with OEM is price. It will end up being around $1000 in parts, plus you have to go back to the dealer and pay them $150 to program it...

Really? I did a ULF installation in our E46 and it was ~$500 from the dealership... which, granted, is still a lot more than most third-party kits but it's not a ballbreaker. The feature you need to go OEM to get (as far as I know) is caller-ID display on the MID/monitor. I really like that.
To contrast, I installed a first-generation Motorola carkit in my E34 and it wasn't *that* intrusive (see attached). A similar current-model carkit (HF850 is basic, IHF1000 is a bit more fancy with the voice features & caller ID) runs around $100-$200 edit: by the way, the IHF1000 is the Cadillac (and others, I think) OEM carkit. |

interesting. after reading the BT retrofit sticky in this forum I decided to email my SA.
he got back to me 2 hours later and said that *there is no way* to retrofit my E92 with BT. He also said that even if was possible, im looking at $2500+ in parts and labor. Excuse my french, but i think the guy is full of shit... From what i understand all US E92's are pre-wired and all i would need is the actual BT box and a mic. Am I correct?

You might need to ask around; you need an ULF (universal handsfree) module (which installs like a TCU, but is just the bluetooth part, no GPS or Assist) and whatever parts/brackets/dongles to get it hooked up in the e92.
Part of the problem is that the roof control center where the microphone goes is officially one part number, so the dealer probably wants to sell you a whole new one instead of just a microphone. Edit: really, though, I'd seriously consider the Mot IHF1000. The control panel is way less intrusive than even the one in my picture, and the voice-announced caller ID is almost as good as a display but without the crap on your dash. |

Just heard back from bimmernav guys. As I suspected my SA had no idea what he was talking about. All i would need is a $675 TCU Unit that goes into the trunk, $55 microphone and someone at a dealer to program when whole thing. The kit comes with instuctions for BMW techs on how to do the programming, in case they are retarded.
Looks like this is the solution i will go for. A little expensive, but what the hell, you can't beat the convenience and clean look of OEM setup.

2. If you have an iPod adapter (i do) you will need to install some kind of switch to be able to switch between mObrige solution and your iPod, since both of them use CD changer bus. 3. Half-assed setup in non-iDrive vehicles (like mine)
