Honestly this is the majority of why tools break. Using regular sockets instead of impacts, using 1/4" drive adapters with 3/8" or even 1/2" sockets, using a ratchet wrench instead of a breaker bar, screwdriver instead of a proper pry bar or cold chisel, etc.
One thing I'll say though having worked as a mechanic and used SK, KD, Mac, Craftsman, and Snap-on on the job - IF you can get the Snap-on stuff, do it. Buy once, cry once. Little details that actually can make a difference if you're someone who isn't just a slapstick "eh fuck it good enough" type mechanic. That being said, I've also abused Snap-on tools and they held up better than the SK / KD stuff I abused, so there's that too. |

Every tool has a hammer side.
In reality I would just rather have 5 cheap SK ratchets I bought used from ebay than 1 Snap-on. That way I can keep tools in my car, in my garage, in the equipment shed, etc, and don't have to drag them around everywhere or walk all the way back to the house if I need something. I've made some great deals on nice tools from yard sales, ebay, etc, including Mac and Snap-on. I just wouldn't go out and buy them brand new unless I depended on them for a career.
