the best spring for stock shocks?
So i'd like to lower my e90 328i W/O ZSP. And after reading all the posts here im a bit confused. I do want to lower my car for the look but i do not want to buy new shocks.
Im a mild driver and my car's used to commute about 10 miles per day near downtown los angeles. Is it acceptable to go w/o new shocks considering that i will only have my car for 20000 more miles? If yes, what is the best spring for the stock shocks? I know H&R is very popular but i also heard that eibach springs are softer hence better for the stock shocks? Any input will be appreciated. THX!!! |

I'm not a spring expert but most vendor's and members probably will tell you that your stock shocks won't work especially on a non-sport package 3er due to premature wear on the shock itself, but don't quote me on that.

I definitely recommend the H&R Sport Springs or Eibach Pro Kit. Both are great options to lower the car and give it a firmer feel without making it unbearable for daily driving. Downtown LA can have it's rough spots but these springs will definitely hold their own.

if your going to spend the money on lowering springs, and spend money on labor - what is a few hundred bucks for shocks - save yourself the hassle of paying for - or doing the labor yourself twice..
the Koni FSD/Eibach Pro-Kit package can be had for under $800... I called summit racing the other day and they gave me a GREAT price on the package - Koni Part # 2150 4036 $761 + 11.75 handling. i ran this same setup on my MKV GTI and was VERY happy. it rode SO nice and the stance was perfect. i am in the process of deciding what suspension upgrades my 07 335i will be receiving. i would hands down go the FSD/Pro Kit route if the package deal were in fact available for the 335. Koni part number 2150 4036 is NOT the correct package for a 335 - eibach produces different springs for 328's and 335's - and the fsd combo obviously includes springs for the 328... to buy the fsd and pro kit separately doesn't really pay! |

I used to run the stock shocks (w/o ZSP) with the Eibach Pro-kit. Ran the setup for about 12,000 miles before replacing it with coilovers. To be honest there was little to no wear on my shocks even though I do push my car at times. You should not be worried at all

10 miles a day and 20K to go...that will be close to 5.5 years!! I was going to say forget about getting new springs, but if you're going to have it for so long then go for the mod. H&R sport would be my choice.

I drove my friend's car with about 5-6k miles on stock sport package shocks and H&R springs. The car was crap. Not only did it ride bad but it handled bad as well. I think members may be unaware that their shocks are quickly deteriorating if they drive it on a daily basis as it just gets a little worse over time. The car bounced all over the place, didn't recover from bumps quickly, was severely underdamped and felt a lot worse than stock.
Installed a good set of shocks, and that solved the issues.

chowbow, i wonder why you are so against aftermarket spring + stock shock combo. I did search before i post and i saw you warning people about this combo everywhere. But i also saw that many members did this and car's working fine. I talked to a track expert who owns a 335 and he said that i should be fine. No doubt that the stock shocks will ware out eventually, but considering im selling my car in 2 years i think im fine. Neways, thanks for the responses guys! |

I've also had personal experience on my coworker's car with an H&R spring setup and stock shocks. It was just bad, and I think it is bad advice to say the factory shocks are well matched to aftermarket springs.
