BMW 335i e92 2010 || Error Codes 36c9 - Engine malfunction reduced power
Hi there,
I’m new to this site so I’m hope I’m posting this in the correct place - I’m sure I’ll be corrected and pointed in the right direction if it’s not. I was driving the other day and accelerating reasonably hard in 3rd gear and around 5000rpm (I think) I received the “engine malfunction reduced power” error come up on the dash and CIC. I have had a similar issue in the past, but this time the engine really went into limp mode and was barely enough power to keep the car from stalling. Anyway, same old story, turned the car off, let it rest for a minute or so and everything returned to normal. Here’s a list of my error codes from Carly, hope someone can point me in the right direction as I’m pretty new to e92’s This seem to be the main issue, Motor Control: Engine / Motor Internal Error DME Code: 0036C9 / 36c9 I’m pretty sure this one turned up at the same time, ABS / DSC / Brake: Dynamische Stabilitaets Kontrolle / DSC Engine torque is not adjustable CAN Code: 005E19 This is the freeze frame Data, Faultcode: Internal Error DME Faultset 1: (appeared at: 99320.0km) speed monitoring: 0.00 1/min Engine torque actual monitoring: 478.00 Nm Engine torque setpoint monitoring: 28.00 Nm inserted syringe fuel mass: 98.00 l/h Faultcode: Internal Error DME Faultset 2: (appeared at: 262144.0km) speed monitoring: 0.00 1/min Engine torque actual monitoring: 254.00 Nm Engine torque setpoint monitoring: 96.00 Nm inserted syringe fuel mass: 39.00 l/h Faultcode: Internal Error DME Faultset 3: (appeared at: 784.0km) speed monitoring: 560.00 1/min Engine torque actual monitoring: 0.00 Nm Engine torque setpoint monitoring: 256.00 Nm inserted syringe fuel mass: 239.00 l/h Faultcode: Internal Error DME Faultset 4: (appeared at: 312.0km) speed monitoring: 1920.00 1/min Engine torque actual monitoring: 196.00 Nm Engine torque setpoint monitoring: 0.00 Nm inserted syringe fuel mass: 127.00 l/h Faultcode: Internal Error DME Faultset 5: (appeared at: 30584.0km) speed monitoring: 5120.00 1/min Engine torque actual monitoring: 78.00 Nm Engine torque setpoint monitoring: 0.00 Nm inserted syringe fuel mass: 0.00 l/h Any help would be much appreciated, many thanks in advance!! Do you have any mods on the car? I've had this happen to me three times. Each time it happened I was able to pull over, restart the car and drove fine after.
I believe this was happening because I was missing the bung hole screws on my VRSF chargepipe and had a huge boost leak. I've put about 2000 miles on it since and the issue hasn't come back. |

BMW recommend replacing the ECU so they did, luckily under a 3rd party mechanical warranty (cost 2.5k NZD). Unfortunately, this didn't fix the fault.
Im now going to replace the High Pressure Fuel Pressure Sensor. Also, i run 91 octane, i am cosidering changing to 95 or 98 octane. Fault Code: 0036C9 Fault Explanation: DME, internal fault, safety function: plausibility relative fuel mass |

Sorry for digging out the old thrd but currently just started having same issues. 2012 335i n55 Jb4 catless downpipe intake Running like this 2 years no issues. Two days ago overtaking on 75% throttle and boom Limp mode and two same codes as yours. 36C9 5E19 Do you remember if any of those codes disappeared after bmw replaced DME unit? Or both of them were still present? I'm surprised they didn't change the sensor first to try. Did you change the sensor yourself or they did it under warranty after dme? Buying the sensor now to replace but trying to figure out if it was only sensor in yours or both. Also some people suggest it can be boost leak. But I assume if its a leak it would go into limp mode every WOT, and in my case Im having issues to replicate it. Happened twice already but random, trying to drive it like i stole it and it drives perfect for two days, then suddenly goes to limp mode. Any help appreciated. If you have those two codes together its the High Pressure Fuel Sensor on fuel Rail. £68 from BMW (Bosch) 30 min work Problem solved. |
