Question How sensitive is the DTC/DSC on the 335i’s?

Now that I’ve bumped up to the MHD Stage 2+ tune (with corresponding mods)….I’ve noticed that I’m having issues with the DSC (traction control) light coming on and having the engine pull power. I don’t feel the tires slipping at all but if I’m in 1st or 2nd gear…..any type of mid-way down throttle input and the thing just falls on it’s face and I get the DSC light flashing at me. If I have a log running, you can actually see the throttle closing for a slip second after the 1-2 and 2-3 shift….I’m assuming because there is a minute about of tire slip? And that’s only at part throttle….

How sensitive is the DSC on these cars? Even if I’m not on the gas hard, sometimes I will get the DSC light flashing at me. Is it a good idea to just turn the DTC mode on (push the DTC button once) every time I get on the car, or is the best bet to just turn all of the nanny software off (holding down the DTC button for 3 seconds)?

I don’t mind having the computer sense crazy wheel spin and dial back the power a bit to keep the tires from spinning……but it seems like it’s killing power before the tires even start to get lose.

It’s annoying to have the ECU pull power from the motor when it seems like there is plenty of grip left in the tires. I’m running 265/35/18 Firehawk Indy 500’s in the rear…and they are really grippy.

I’m sure some of you guys have a lot of info on this DSC/DTC system……educate me please!

Its sensitive but youre also putting alot of power through an open diff so its gonna have traction issues. I always put it in dtc mode when i start my car. However you should log with everything off as i even get traction control kicking on in 1-2 in dtc

I won't pretend to be an expert on the system, but just from my own personal experience, after flashing MHD 1+, I had the same issues as you. Any significant throttle in 1st or 2nd would trigger power cut and the traction light yelling at me. And this is with 275's in the rear. So now anytime I wanna do anything remotely spirited, I put it in DTC.

I'm also using the linear throttle setting and limited boost slightly in 1st and 2nd, although I may raise the cap a bit as I think i have my car set up too conservatively now.

In any case, if I had experienced this on 1+ with a fairly stockish set up, I'd imagine you're really getting nerfed by DSC

I will give the boost limit settings a try..... I forgot about playing with those!

And although these cars don't have a LSD...the e-diff setup seems to work very well. If I turn all the reaction control Nanny's off....it will leave two black marks for as long as I want.....so it's doing a good job of putting power to both tires.

Actually....speaking about the e-diff, does it only work when the DTC is on, or DSC (all traction control) is off? That would make sense. I do know that when the DTC is on, I can put a lot more power to the ground....but not as much as when I have the DSC off.

Man.......I wish these cars weren't so complicated. Too many "modes" to mess with.....

Traction control will go nuts cutting power on anything more than stage 1, especially in lower gears. You will want to have it on DTC or DSC off fully with boost limiting in 1st and 2nd to put the power down.

Personally don't like boost limiting on gears, it's more fun this way.

you cannot log with dsc enabled, you have to full press for any log

im awd and it will intervene mid pull in 3rd gear. it is extremely sensitive, it will pull power just in case you might break traction. it doesnt wait for the event to occur

it will also affect shifting, dtc/dsc on or off is a different map

I've 100% noticed this and you just confirmed for me, I had my suspicions.

What do you mean? I can get MHD logging any time I want by pressing the "Start logging" button.

It's pretty invasive on a tuned car. I used to almost always drive using the long press due to part-throttle DSC activation driving me nuts, but after using the torque limits in xHP a while back that no longer seems to be an issue under normal conditions.

I would look into an LSD

I gotta say even on my 335 (N54 with FBO) and an LSD, traction is still very invasive in gears 1/2 and usually 3 (in the dry too). I have PS4s in the rear but they are only 255s(came with the car).

I gotta double check that my coding for the E diff is actually off

I'm not 100% sure on this but I believe the first couple years of the 335i, full off was full off, but with the later years, the e-diff would stay on even with dsc/DTC fully off

I can leave two nice and even black lines with everything turned off.....so I'm assuming the e-diff is still working. I read somewhere that the only way to turn the e-diff off was to code it off......some of the guys who have lsd's installed were needing to turn off the e-diff system

At least in a straight line (maybe not a twisty track)...the e-diff does a great job of putting power to both tires...

Yes. You CAN. But if is not a good log if you turn don't it off.

Any log you look at needs to be a full press dsc off, or it's worthless data.

Not every log has to full a full throttle run.......it all depends on what you are wanting to analyze.

All nannies have to be off when submitting a 3rd gear log to your tuner.
