Interior Trim up keep?
Hey guys I was wondering if you could recommend some products and procedures to keep my wood trim nice and shiny. I've tried some windex which might of been a bad idea after i think about it before and it worked rather poorly. Thanks for the info in advance. I think other members would find this helpful as well cause in all honesty the wood trim really does set the whole atmosphere of the car when you sit in it.

My car is two years old and I haven't done anything to the wood trim short of dusting it with a lambswool duster. But it's as shiny as the day I picked the car up. If you keep hands, bare feet, etc. (my ex used to take her shoes off in the car) off the wood (the only area this may be difficult is on the center counsel) you should minimize finger/foot prints.
If you have fingerprints on the wood trim, just take a slightly damp microfiber towel and wipe the area clean. Follow up with a dry towel to remove any moisture. Some people would use a cleaning product but, for most issues with the wood, simple water will do the trick.

^ good advice right there
you might also wanna get some 303 aerospace protectant. Using it once a month helps keep everything pretty protected and clean. Dust doesnt gather as much anymore on my interior and fingerprints and stuff wipe off a lot easier. |

Is it me or do ALOT of people have a tendency to lift their feet up so they can place them at the point where the trim meets the dashboard?

Swissvax is the only company that I know of that makes a wood polish/wax just for the interior's of our cars.
I have used wax and QD's with great results. I might buy thre swissvax just to see the difference. I believe it is $25-$40.

I don't know I think its big with girls, even my girlfriend does it. When I tell her shes gonna scratch my stuff and that shes getting all up in my dashboard she lets her 'your a weirdo' face engage.

Last time my gf got in to my car with her high heels on, she scratched the side skirts with the tip of the heel. You just cant get mad though, for they just dont care about cars like we do. And plus, if all I have to live with is a scratch here and there on my car to be with the only girl I have ever liked, then I think it worth it.

All I can say to all this is to quote Frank Martin, Jason Statham's character in Transporter 2: "Respect and man's car, and he will respect you."

Just looked the quote up (thank God for imdb.com). It's actually as follows (I edited some of the non-rule stuff out):
Frank Martin: What's the first rule when entering a mans car? Jack Billings: Respect a mans car, a man respects you. Frank Martin: Rule number two? Jack Billings: Greet the man. Good afternoon Frank! Frank Martin: What's the third rule of the car? Frank Martin: [Jack buckles his seatbelt] Good. So there...

This is what I said in another thread.
Clean the surface with a mixture of soap and water or just water to ensure the trim is clean. Then use a glaze with tons of fillers (I use CG Revive Glaze) to try and fill in the scratches. I would take 3-4 passes and make sure you rub the glaze in until it is hazing. Follow it with a wax or a sealant to help lock in the fillers(I use CG 50/50). These steps will take care of the light scratches and swirls, but for the bigger ones you would have to take the trim off and machine polish them out. When doing these steps you must be careful to not get any glaze or wax/sealant on other trim parts of the interior. It would be a good idea to tape off everything surrounding the areas that you will be working on. Also just to be careful put some towels on the seats and the carpets so if you drip anything it wont get on the interior. Once you are done with everything keep a MF towel and some QD in your car(I use CG Speed Wipe or CG ONE). If you get a smudge or dirt, then just spray the QD into the towel and wipe the area down. Come back with a clean, dry part of the towel to buff the QD off. Don't spray the QD directly on the surface because you don't want to get mist all over the leather and plastic's. If you do all of these steps you will fill in as many scratches as possible, leave a bit of protection, but mostly just make it easier to keep clean. I do this to my car every couple of months to keep the trim looking as new as possible. Good Luck! Jared
