You have to wonder about the longevity of pistons made from powdered metal but nonetheless that's pretty cool. There's still a lot of room for improvement of ICE as they just keep getting better and better with technology.

Not read the article, but 30hp from changing pistons???

Plenty research going into AM now, most specifically by aerospace companies who need to be sure that their components will last well...nice to see that Porsche are following that up by investigating AM for another high-fatigue component.

Yes, but we're at the point of diminishing returns for the money.

This is great to see but I'd imagine the cost implications are astronomical. At the end of the day, most improvements in ICE simply don't net returns the buyer is willing to absorb.

Hybrids and turbos are a good middle ground (for now) but there's only so much more we can iterate on an ICE without it adding costs that just don't make sense.

Don't get me wrong, I wish this wasn't the case. There's a reason I drive a NA car and will hold onto it forever, but I just don't think we have much more room to improve without costs ballooning.
