I can't help thinking this looks like BMW's Long Beach Blue.

I also listened to Planet Money today haha.

But that Pantone color has lower luminosity. LBB is also on the green side relative to the Pantone color of the year.

To my eyes that Pantone 'Classic Blue' looks a darker shade of blue than LBB.

Yeah, Classic Blue is nowhere close to LBB. It's flat, has more gray in it (i.e., saturation is lower), and doesn't tonally lean toward either green or red (hence 'Classic').

The closest car color I can think of to it was the blue that Triumph TR6s and TR7s often came in. (I'm sure there's a modern equivalent):
