Side Mirror Fix
Any one local to Brooklyn do the side mirror fix? (stopping my mirror from going all the way around-- pretty much pointing forward)
I would love for someone to correct mine from doing that. LMK |

What you can do is put the switch (where you put left or right to adjust) on the passenger side and it won’t go down. At least that’s what it does on my F10.

He's referring to the detent pin failure, in which anytime the doors are unlocked, the mirrors turn all the way forward. I had this issue on my car when I first bought it, and what I ended up doing was to cut the power wire to the motor and kill the ability to fold remotely all together. I wish my car still could fold them in but the whole folding to far thing wasn't going to work for me.
I do occasionally spend nights in Astoria at my girlfriend's place, and I'd be happy to have you meet up with me to do this for you/ show you what to cut. It's been a year and a half since I since I did mine, but we could pop off my mirror cover to double check we have the right wire. All we'd need to do is to get it in the position you want them, and cut the wire.

People just cut the power wire. Not really worth buying a new mirror base and used one will have the same issue. Cutting power wire will just stop the auto fold in and out but the mirror is fully operational.

Cutting the wire (i believe the white one, not 100% sure of colour) will remove the folding feature. If you choose to do this you have to make sure the mirror is back in the right position WITH the pin 'down', otherwise it will not be locked in the correct position and you may have some movement. One member on here has found a solution to this and it is to use a small drill bit and drill a hole right above the pin. Once the hole is drilled you can then push the pin down. Spray some cleaner in there followed by lubricant. I will try and locate the thread for you that describes the drilling position. Thread found, link here: https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1443528 This is what i did and its been fine since. |
