Ista confusion
Hi all I have got a new battery to put in my E92 335i but looking at coding I am getting confused.
I have seen in a few post that the E series cannot be coded with ISTA-D and needs ISTA-P to code a new battery (different AH and type) and I have also seen people say ISTA-D can do it Can anyone tell me with certainty that the Rheingold file on Bimmergeeks which links to ISTA-D can code a new battery into my E92 please? Also is it a straight download and use file or do i need to change anything? |

Ista D
Ista D is diagnostic despite that a battery can be coded
with Ista D if you get it running. Are you sure you want to code it or just register it? There are some really big battery coding thread's here did you search. https://www.e90post.com/forums/showt...hlight=battery Ista D is very user friendly if you can get it up and going . Put battery in the search box and all the things relating to battery will come up. Ista P is genraly only used to update the entire car and can be dangerous if you Don't use a Big power supply and a Icom cable. Even then it is like using a sledge hammer to put up a wall hanger. Diagnostic Manuals Inpa/Ista D https://bimmerprofs.com/diagnostics-inpa-part-1/ https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=...7x8H3pN8h1fMuF https://carmod.ru/files/icom/istad_en.pdf https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1681573 https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/s...-P-actually-do primary links https://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/at...9&d=1539905743 https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1681573 https://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/at...1&d=1590283589 Buy Bimmergeeks Cable and download the Bimmergeeks downloads. None of this is plug and play if you want a simple plug and play setup by the Bimmergeeks Pro Tool with the Battery option. Last edited by ctuna; 08-13-2020 at 02:35 PM.. |

Hi ctuna, thankyou for such a speedy reply.
I appreciate the links and will look down through them before I attempt to go in and reprogram anything. I do need to code as I am going from lead acid to AGM, I also know when the coding is done I will still need to register the battery and I plan to use INPA to do that. I understand it may be a lot more simple that it sounds and once I start actually plugging in and using the software it will all click and I will wonder why I was so hesitant to just get started, I have used Snap-on and other car scanners before but when I see/hear people saying you can brick an ecu with these programmes if done incorrectly I want to make sure I am on point before trying. I have done searches on here, YouTube and Google but starting out there are so many opinions it is hard to know what to do, some say use ISTA some say use NCSexpert and seems every video I watch and every post I read does things slightly differently and that just confuses issues more so I figured I would start one and get the exact things i need to know Ista seems the most straight forward I just wanted to make sure I downloaded the correct one. |

If you are just starting out coding I would advice you to go slow.
This is not a plug and play setup and you have to have pretty good PC ability's . You have to have some Tech ability to do this stuff. You will need to get Inpa going first with most of these downloads. If you are looking for plug and play Bimmergeeks Pro Tools. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=...Wd61vBk4OO5-SI If you noticed in the above video changing battery type is listed in Ista D The Doctors Video's and advice are Golden https://www.nathansbmwworkshop.com/b...or-dean-videos Last edited by ctuna; 08-13-2020 at 03:12 PM.. |

Finally got a day dry enough to do the battery change today.
I went with the NCS expert and dummy route, it was actually really simple, I read the ecu/module again afterwards and it showed the new battery rating so I know it worked. I registered the battery through INPA so now I am good to go. I will look into coding the wing mirrors to fold with the key next. Thank you ctuna for all the assistance |

appreciate I don't care I just hope you understand it.
The fact that you even try to put this stuff together and use it may not only help yourself but somebody else. Too many helpless people that are easily manipulated these days. |
