Digital Logo Design

Does anyone play around with this sort of stuff? Or maybe you consider yourself a professional.

Either way... Im interested in seeing a few different logos/insignias/crest/etc for a potential business Im thinking of starting.

Of course, I would be willing to PayPal a nominal amount to someone that designs a suitable graphic.

Thanks for your time

You should try Fiver.com. I have had great success with some of the work I have had done from that site. And the prices are great.

Agree, there are a lot of talented people on there that have very reasonable prices.

you could try 99 designs

Post what you want and you get a whole bunch of ideas.

A client of mine used them for a design and it wasn't too bad.

What kind of business are you looking to start?

Visiting any freelancing site or any forum of graphic designers. Yes, they would definitely assist you. Otherwise, if you have little know-how about graphic designing then you can also design yourself at Canva with great ease.

FWIW - if you are starting a simple product/hobby business, than ANY crowd/cloud design website can do a logo for less than $100-ish.

BUT if you are pitching VCs for funding or plan on selling to businesses (e.g. Fortune 500), then I suggest getting a seasoned, local freelancer.

The latter is extremely sensitive to all things brand and first impressions.

I used to do advertising and product stuff for local businesses, and Riedel and a few other larger companies have bought some of my work as art in their offices (all contacted me through Instagram and we struck deals that way). I have the literal worst logo ever. It's just M. Long in font in the bottom right corner. And I've only had my stuff stolen once lol... It was a picture of a Hasselblad from above with an image on the screen I just took as an afterthought. Was shooting and saw what looked like a cool idea, so I just aimed my Canon down without really thinking much and bam, it got plenty of praise and is one of my most liked photos on social media (HASSELBLAD EVEN HIT LIKE!!!!). Go figure.

But generally, you are correct. Branding is extremely important, particularly in marketing images. If you're going to do business online, you need something that's unique and stands out. If you're approaching locals, it doesn't seem to be as important as showing them your BEST work.

I was bummed that I couldn't oversee the installation of my work (glassware with various drinks on fire) at Riedel. And shipping the large print was a nightmare. An EXPENSIVE nightmare.

I just had a logo made for my new business and they asked if I wanted to copyright it? Any merit to this or just another way to make a profit?

TIA

Be very careful with using these low cost sites like fiverr.

Most "artists" doing logo design are stealing/using images from google image searching similar ideas, slightly modifying them and calling it their own design.

Sounds harmless unless your business gets big enough that the stolen art in your logo gets you into legal trouble.

Something to think about.

Coming a designer,

Don't state you're going to give a nominal fee.... You're going to get nominal amount of time and effort from anyone worth their salt.

Any decent graphic designer will ask for a deposit. Anyone working for nothing or next to nothing hasn't got a business and won't be any good

"pay a nominal amount" I'd suggest you pay go with a designer who yo agree an amount with, you can't dictate prices to other businesses

Couldn't agree more. I've been in this industry for 20+ years and what you get on these sites are generally people who just picked up the basics of PS and go out and copy other designs to get you something for cheap - or they go to other sites like Themeforest to steal a design and submit it as yours.

I don't do this type of work anymore, but if I'm expecting a quality logo on the cheap, I'd still expect it to run you $750+.
