My attempt to watch the end of the Xfinity race from Pocono an hour ago may have been the last straw for cable TV at Chez Vreihen. There are several lines of thunderstorms in the area, and several were severe and triggered an EAS (Emergency Alert System) notification. By law, the cable company has to interrupt ALL channels for an EAS alert. At one point, the alerts were interrupting each other they were coming in so fast! Many of the alerted storms were to the east of us (already passed), or for three counties away. There was apparently an awesome pass in the tunnel turn (#2) after a tight green-white-checker restart in race overtime, but the only thing that I saw was the last half lap and a piece of the post-race interview between EAS alerts. Ugh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One small thing I really like is you can arrange the channels in the guide so all your frequently watched channels are at the top for easy access. It has all the ESPN channels, the major networks etc.

Cut the chord over 2 years ago and 0 regrets. I knew the last straw for me was when I was recording stupid things like Deadliest Catch and then spending hours over the weekend watching mindless shows.

I've only got the fastest internet I could get through Charter and Netflix, and my needs are met. Kind of made me stop following sports, which is fine too because my teams are mediocre at best the past few years haha.

We moved from PS Vue to YouTubeTV, and while it isn’t quite as nice, YTTV has 90% of what PSV did. I do miss MotoGP races on BEIN Sports but that’s about it. The best part is that you can share with family members without paying more. We now only pay $50 a month vs $130 we were paying to maintain two households in two different zip codes.

It went from $40 to $65 in about a year. I'll be canceling my subscription prior to 8/24. They better get smart and add packages.

Yeah, saw that as well... Might make the switch as well. Either is still less expensive than my Cox Cable for me.

I while I see the advantages of cutting the cord, the sacrifice in picture quality alone is what keeps me away. Perhaps I bias my choice towards the performance end of the spectrum rather than the cost end. I guess a lot of people either don't know or don't care about the picture quality difference and see streaming as good enough.

I was barely tolerating $50/mo for YouTubeTV since Wifey only watches it for The Voice, which is done until the fall. Everything else she watches is on Netflix or PBS. YouTubeTV jacking their monthly cost up a whopping 30% for crap like MTV and VH1 is nuts. Time to kill that. Maybe I'll check out SlingTV or some other package.

Shit, now I need to find an alternative because I'm not paying $65/mth & I don't want any of those channels they are adding. I have really enjoyed it & preferred it over Sling.

This...

Additionally, these cord cutting savings are not going to last long. You can already see the individual services starting to jack up prices and eventually people are going to want their bundles back.

Don’t disagree but the competition is good for the consumer. The services like YoutubeTV and Hulu have LONG way to go before their pricing is close to the monopoly cable company in my area.

My kids are so used to youtubetv and all their shows are saved and being recorded. They would not be happy if I took it away now, but the price hike is ridiculous. It used to be $35, how did it already get to $65.

Anyone here using Philo? $20 a month and for me has the right package with the few cable channels I watch. Currently paying $90 per month for DirecTV and watching about 2 channels.

I'm the same with picture quality but also dislike how fast forward and rewind works with at least everything online that I have tried. Then I have TIVO and really like Commercial Skip, fast mode where I watch some things 30% faster and the ease of setting up schedules to record things when they happen to show up, then two TV's connected to the same box makes things simple to watch part of a show, turn on the other TV and immediately continue to watch.

I am generally pretty cheap but with cable and internet costing right at $200/ month assuming the Youtube / internet puts people at roughly $130?
