Hmmm, you weren't born on the 15th of the month by chance, were you?

I don't think they will get very far with this argument.

Well the dealer that I was in said that they had seen a letter saying that if the BT unit was fried and that an incompaible phone had been paired with the BT kit then it would not be covered under warranty.
Now I know as well as you that BMW are bang out of order if they do this but if they can prove you are using a "non approved" hardware with the BT kit (and they can) then they are saying they will not cover it and the units are £1500. The problem the dealer has is that they have to now approve almost alll of the electrical parts by way of pluggging them in and uploading data to BMW, they then say if the part can be replaced or not, the dealer has no say in the matter. |

BMW cannot simply disregard their own warranty terms, unless they can categorically prove a TCU fault was caused as a direct result of a phone pairing. Even if they could, which I very much doubt, their TCU & Bluetooth hardware & software implementation could be argued as being being substandard & of ridiculously poor quality. I'm going to speak to a friend in the States about this, because I really do think this whole issue is bogus beyond belief. ![]() Viv |

I second the idea this is all bogus, Bluetooth is an open standard and for BMW to try and say otherwise is crazy, tell the dealer service agent that you'd like this statement in writing as you'll want to send this "offical" memo to the motoring press so they can have a field day.

Have you got lots of texts on the SIM card? My old E46 Bluetooth and my Nokia fell out when I had more than 100 texts in the phone memory. Delete the texts from your inbox to see if that fixes it.

Get them to put that in writing..... They'd be a laughing stock. If there is no physical connection, they don't have a leg to stand on to imply it has damaged the unit. If they provided a cradle for a specific phone, then they must be implying it is compatible. I used a 6230i for 12 months and can't remember having a problem with it. I now have a 6301 and it works ok two or three times on a journey but then generally packs up. Switching in off and on gets it going again. Bloody useless! Both were on Orange network - not that I would think it makes a difference. |

Carl,
Those phone are notoriously unreliable. My miswah and daughtwa have gone through about three each with various faults. Is it possible for you to pair up to any other bluetooth device with your phone? Is it possible to try and pair someone else's phone up to the DXB? Try and rule out either the phone or the car. My money's on the phone being shit.
